    gta 4 stuttering

I'm getting stuttering when I'm accelerating, pressing w on keyboard and if i keep pressing it repeatedly its like a slide show.

the rest of the game is fine its just driving cars when it does it.

Ive tried all settings low and high and it still does it even on the 64 install.

even on high settings the cpus ain't doing much so that's not a problem.

i tried to get the patches from rock star but the link dont work, do i need to be connected to the net to get the updates?

or whould getting a controller fix the problem, its a pita playing it with kb and mouse anyway.

    also I'm using eyefinity @ 5760x1200

    Re: gta 4 stuttering

Seems to me that your cpu isn't fast enough. I had similar problems when I played the game on a pentium d 830 - fps dropped to the point where it was a slideshow when I was driving a fast car. Do you have the same problem if you only use 1 monitor?

And yes, you need to be connected to the internet in order to download patches.

Make sure you get all the latest updates, a lot is fixed in the various ones, yes you needed to be connected to the net.

dunno about that at max settings I'm only using 16% cpu so there's plenty left. ram is well within limits as well on both 32 and 64.

Ive not tried it on one screen yet but as for fps its OK as long as i dont repeatedly press w and then it starts stuttering for some reason.

ill give the patches a go when i can get hooked up to the net.

You'll probably struggle in terms of graphics. I'm using a 4870 X2 (very similar to a 5850) and have massive slowdowns at times at 2048x1152, even on the lowest settings.

    Re: gta 4 stuttering

I very much doubt it's your rig, as GTA4 used to run smoothly on my PC... however after re-installing it again lately after about maybe 6 months of not playing it, it stutters really badly even if I turn all graphic details down to minumum.

I think they borked something in the latest patch and just haven't fixed it yet. Try not installing the latest patch and install the previous one only? Either that or try rolling back your graphics drivers if possible?
