    Re: Gaming problem HELP

Check for an overheating issue and make sure your drivers are bang up to date, reinstalling them even if they're not could be an idea also.

    Re: Gaming problem HELP

If google had trend data for the terms "8800gt/gts overheating" it would show a large spike every summer. Download gpu-z and have it log to file. You can then see what temps the card was hitting when you next crash.

    Re: Gaming problem HELP

ran gpuz and it was 77c. started BC2 pressed join to enter a game and it froze on me. Had to reboot system which seems to take a long time to load up.

Checked gpuz log and when it crashed it was 77c.

Just ran 3dmark vantage and it didn't crash. Could it be sound issues?

So it was 77 before you started the game? I would say that is definitely too hot for idle. I take it you tried running the PC with the side off and looked if the GPU fan is turning?

    Re: Gaming problem HELP

My Brother's old 8800 GTS showed idle as 75c...took the card out and there was a thick crust of dust inside the plastic air duct totally blocking the heatsink. So i took it off and cleaned all of it out. Temps idle after doing so were 45c.

    Re: Gaming problem HELP

Gave both cards a good clean and re-sat with fresh paste, try BC2 played for 10 min then crashed to window again.

had a look a gpuz log and temp was hitting 90c, which i think is high. Strange thing is fan speed was low only ever hitting 40%.

Shouldn't the fan speed increase with raising temp.

So you're using a custom cooler? Try the fan speed at 100%?

I had to make sure to remove the plastic shroud on the card to access all the dust. If you didn't do that, try again removing the shroud. The dust was REALLY wedged in between the heatsink fins..no chance a vacuum cleaner would be able to remove that lot. Good luck.

No. Both are stock coolers. 1 is asus and the other id PNY. Used Riva to set both at 100% still same problem but this time played 5mins.

Took both cards to bit and clean fan and all inside using a tooth pick to get any dust out. They do lokk pretty clean right now.

    So far I have
    1. Updated all drivers for graphics, sound and motherboard
    2. Used gpuz to check temp and cleaned both cards
    3. Try running gpu fans at 100%
    4. Remove side panel of case
    non have worked....
