it should be coming out before the ps2.5 (what a bad name!) and the xbox 2
    which is good
i was jsut wondering if anyone knows anyhting else about thsi console as this is all i know.
    thanks

last i heard of the gamecube successor they had partnered with ibm and ati again (which suggested it might be similar to the xbox2 in terms of hardware)

ps2.5 is apparently the upcoming console from sony
its got slightly better graphics than ps2 and it has a bigger harddrive (to store games and music on like xbox)
their bringing it out to connect that new handheld sony thing to it like gamecubes and gbas
then two years from now there relising the ps3 which is much better than the ps2 and will be their new console to rival n5 and xbox2

Pete, looks like you have been misinformed.

There is the PSX, but this has the same PS2 board with a small hard drive, MP3 play back and nothing else worth bothering with.

The PS3 is due in November 2005, although Sony are relying on the PS2 to hold out until then, which I can't see happening as it's already proving its age.

Well played on a game cube the other day, on a nice large Sony sidescreen TV. Have to say i thought that graphics were shocking compared to PC's. Hadnt really realised th difference.

Is the XBOX any more of an improvement on teh gamecube/PS2 as i thought that were both very poor.

i think you'd need to say what you were playing - because i was playing on my cube last night & was in awe of the graphics, having forgotten how good they were.

and bunji, let's be honest, the ps2 showed its age on launch day, it looked pap compared to the year-old dreamcast

When i compared my brand new ps2's graphics to my dreamcast i nearly cried. The only thing that stopped me from taking it back to game was the promise of GT3 and MGS2 on the horizon.

tony hawk underground, and mario kart double dash. In retrospec tony hawk was prolly made for PS2 originally? and mario kart was an improvement...

But the tony hawk's graphics actually gave me a head ache...suppose it may have just been the huge TV making it look much more blockly that it would be on a smaller screen....

Need to do some more babysitting for them as then i can play some more games hehe

But that was the point - the DC was to much of an unknowen and the Saturn before it wasn't much of a success, the PS2 everybody knew was going to have all the cool games the PSone had.

As for the N5 - Exactly what directhex said: the only thing that will make it different to the X-Box 2 is how it's put together and the games, from what I've seen on Gamebiz it's using the same processor/graphics chip, should be interesting to see what the chaps at Nintendo with the extra time.

anybody understand the point of releasing a new console that is just slightly better than the old one? is it to keep the pennys rolling in?

gamcube graphics can be amazing on cell shaded games such as zelda it looks really good i thought
    also metroid had cool graphics

Hit the nail on the head there

Although saying that the PSX is more a rich boys toy:

The PSX features a built-in TV tuner, a personal video recorder (PVR) with a hard drive, a DVD recorder and PlayStation 2 (PS2) game console all in one device.

Pricing was announced at ¥78,900 ($719) for the DESR-5000 model with a 160 GB hard disk, while the ¥99,800 ($899) DESR-7000 model contains a 250 GB hard drive.

The PSX console is compatible with the DVD-R/-RW/+RW formats and supports the JPEG, TIFF and GIF image formats.

For music lovers Sony has included ATRAC3 and MP3 audio file compatibility.

The PSX comes with an 100 Base/TX Ethernet high speed networking support and a USB 1.1 port.

possibly. 50hz can't help. try holding the b button whilst booting a game, that tends to prompt for 60hz mode

for good looking games, try metroid prime, zelda 12, starfox adventures, waverace blue storm.
