Anyone else had a desire recently to go and play Half Life 2 again?

I don't know what happened, but a few weeks back I had to play HL2 again. I haven't touched the game for a few years, lost all my saves and had hammered the episodes to death so much that I knew them by heart.

Then out the blue, wham! Herpes. No wait, wham! HL2!!

I noticed that a few other Steam friends had done something else recently too - subliminal messaging from Valve? E3 HL3 teasers? Feeling broody because my sexy PT looks like Alyx?

Anyway, loved the thing to bits again. Roll on HL3!

yeah i also had an urge to play half life 2 again, think it must be my need to attain achievements for games

HL3? hah i reckon we'd be lucky to get it in time for christmas 2012. i think if they were going to do HL3 then a new engine would be in order, or at least a heavily modified source engine to include all the new shiny surface effects

That was exactly my first thought when I started writing the thread!

Gotta try and get them all too! Don't you wish they gave you back points so you could use them towards new games?

Yeah HL3 is a long way off. Gabe was saying that before E3. Sure they'll be a new engine too. Source is showing its age.

Started playing it again last week on my Mac laptop. I was away from home, and HL2 is one of the few games I've got on Steam that you can play on a Mac. Played Portal again also. Great game.

I think HL2 set a new standard in game play and longevity. At least for me anyway. Haven't really found many games since, if any that have stood the test of time quite so well.

Oh and yes I will certainly be playing the episodes too

I'm finding the exact same issue. I've got about 130+ games on Steam now and I just find that I'm buying them at a faster rate than I can play them!

    Damn you Steam!

The THQ pack hasn't helped matters in that regard!

I need to complete HL2 at some point... I just reached the end of the graveyard bit a few weeks ago

I remember doing that level with just the Dogs [foot]ball. Was well annoyed when the game took it away!

You've still got some awesome gaming to go. Hope you enjoy it!

On another note, I would love to have my mind wiped and play through HL2 again. First time through was breathtaking.

Yea, i got this... When the update came out for HL2:EP1, i replayed that. Then i downloaded CM10 and played HL2 again. Then played through HL2:EP2 on Synergy... lol.

    Love them games.

    Amazing. If you play through:

    HL1
    HL1: Blue Shift (Not needed)
    HL1: Opposing Force (Not needed)
    HL2
    HL2: Episode 1
    HL2: Episode 2

You'll become a better man. I easily rate the Half-Life series in my Top 3 of all time.

Re: Anyone else had a desire recently to go and play Half Life 2 again?

I skipped Blue Shift and Opposing Force. HL1 is good, but I know the others weren't rated as highly, and I suspect that without any nostalgia the crappy graphics and limited gameplay (in comparison to HL2) will get on my nerves.

Hopefully I've not missed out on anything too major...
