Steam refund

I've just sent a request through steam support to get one of my games refunded and removed from my library.

Did anyone try to get a refund from them? and how did they handle the request (attitude, response time, helpfulness, etc)?

during one of the winter sales i bought saints row 2 and the game ran quicker than it should of on my PC and crashed a fair bit. i contacted their support saying the game was unplayable and therefore i wanted a refund. their reply was just to fob me off to third party support i.e. the dev/pub website for that particular game. i don't think they do refunds!

They only do refunds on pre-orders and thats only if you haven't taken part in early beta access and the like.

Out of interest, which game? Is it a technical issue or do you simply not like the game?

it's GTA4...I know, I know...I was too "optimistic"

It's not a big loss, but it's still a bit disappointing that they can get away with these kind of things.

Furthermore, this policy sounds like it violates trading regulations (at least in the EU)

I've never seen such a badly optimised port...the in-built benchmark runs at 60-65Fps maxed out, but the game itself shutters and lags all the time (it's even slower If I lower settings and resolution )

I found it playable on the rig to the left with everything as high as it let me - with a noticeable aesthetic boost to boot compared with 360 version.

I have installed fraps, and it displays 35-50fps ingame but the movements are laggy, and it's completely unplayable...

I've read some threads and many people have this issue, but I could not find any fix which would work

it's good that I did not pay the full price though

I had that problem last week - the devs haven't done anything to fix the issue, but thankfully somebody else has. Ironically, it only works properly if your CPU is running at 3.2GHz - anything above or below, and you'll have issues, unless you install this patch.

If you have a look on the steam forums for the game you'll see a load of info about it... really does work.

Dreadful, dreadful port though... the worst I've ever seen.

As for the OP, your PC should be able to play GTA IV. You'll need to turn the settings down, and make sure things like clip capture are disabled, but it should be okay.

I bought Mass Effect (the first one) off of Steam after having played ME2 fine on my rig (I decided I liked the story line so much I wanted to play through the first).

Sadly, there was a major issue with the sound, atmospheric volume was really high but voice and other sound effects were virtually non-existant, meaning the game was unplayable unless I turned the sound off. I spent hours of trying to find out about the problem, came here for help, went to loads of Mass Effect sites and even tried contacting BioWare. In the end I gave up.

Went to Steam asking for a refund as the game was unplayable, they replied saying "tough ****" in not so many words. Had a lengthy discussion with them as well, explained what I had done as above etc.

Still can't play it today.

So don't get your hopes up about Steam doing refunds.

Ehhhhhhh.. Try running it at the settings it suggests and put the filtering up to 4x, should run well

I get 40 - 50FPS on my system running at the recommended settings but with the filtering up.

Any fraudulent credit card use, credit card chargebacks, or Paypal chargebacks (regardless of when the transaction occurred).

Doesn't seem worth taking the chance for a fiver.
