PC Games and the lack of GFW Achievements

There are only 34 Games For Windows that come with Achievements. Now, call me an Achievement Wh0re but how come. This service has been around for ages and there's very few games that support this.

There's plenty of GFW games but very few GFWL games (the ones with achvs).

Surely MS should encourage games developers to add achvs seeing as they are already going to the trouble of going through GFW accreditation.

Games of note that have already done this and have Achievements:
    Fallout 3
    Batman Arkham Asylum
    DiRT 2
    Bioshock 2
    Resident Evil 5

I want MORE!!! Yes, I can just play Xbox, but I want to play some games on PC too. Would be nice to have the choice... would it not?

Re: PC Games and the lack of GFW Achievements

Play for Steam achievements instead, much more fun

(DoW2 is a game of note using GFW achievements I'd have thought..)

Re: PC Games and the lack of GFW Achievements

I must admit I do like the GFWL games.. You get the little GFWL screen that you can get up and contact people on the xbox and stuff, and you can also get achievements.

I do think that some developers don't add it to their games because of the resale though. With the GFWL you need to put the code into the GFWL thing then it's assigned to your account and then unsellable.

And I can't believe you forgot to add GTA IV and GTA EFLC to your list

Re: PC Games and the lack of GFW Achievements

I want GFWL to go and die.

Playing Flatout UC and Red Faction Guerilla, and it's just been an utter pain in the neck with both of them.

It was fine in GTA, so I don't know why it's so brain-dead on this occasion.

Re: PC Games and the lack of GFW Achievements

Oh yeah, GTA IV is another notable. Though I am playing Halo 2 via GFWL at the mo.

I for one have NEVER had a single problem with GFW. Guess I am the lucky one

The reason I'm not fussed about Steams achvs is that, as you'll notice from my signature, I am primarily an Xbox player. But would like to play on PC if it meant me also getting some lovely achvs to boost my score.

Oh, and I have DOW II too

I've not really run into any problems with it as of yet and enjoy the achievements/xbox friends connection.

However, when you first install a game thats been out for while, the update process is a right pain in the whatsits!

Likewise I've never really understood the 'hate' towards GFWL. Apparently Dark Void has achievements but when I played through the copy we had to review it didn't unlock any or ask me to sign into my Live account.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."

for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

See, I never had a problem with it, until now.

I was playing Flatout UC, and got reasonably far. Then I suddenly realised I hadn't been logged into GFWL, so I went ahead and logged in - at which point it deleted my save game.

And whatever I tried, it wouldn't let me get back into my old one, so I just had to start from fresh.

And along with RFG, you get bumped back to the start menu when you login, and RFG doesn't let you save unless you're logged in.

So rather than adding features, it's just another stupid layer of DRM that utterly gets in the way.

GFWL can be a total pain in the neck..i've had a couple of saved games deleted for no reason. Steam can be a pain too but nowhere near as bad.

    So what's that in inches?
    Er, loads! Maybe about 8

I know lots of peeps don't like GFWL and bother with achievements, but I like them and they ain't going away. I was wondering why there are so few PC games that cater for achievements, even though an awful lot do have GFW accreditation.

Re: PC Games and the lack of GFW Achievements

I'm with Midas, i like collecting them - even the vain ones [Mile High Club on COD4] but I'm not about to go out buying old games or Avatar for the sake of boosting my score.
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.
