Re: Alien Swarm, New & Free

It being totally open source means that within a month there should be plenty of custom campaigns released, probably why they didn't make the starter too long as it's not really worth the effort.

There's a few little things that are good such as the loading before the lobby, makes a difference to jump straight in the game after talking tactics and planning loadouts etc.

The fact that you can draw on the map in one level makes a difference too, is nice to have that level of co-op interaction beyond just shooting.

It also looks as if they've left it so that new weapons can be easily added to the lists and easily incorporated through models in the loadout menu.

The kill stats and all that are good too with the graph and tracking where players moved - could be something they're trying out for future application?

I'm interested to see where Valve are going with this as it seems more than just a showing off excerise. Tis why I think they released it as free - get as much feedback as possible then both from the community and just general data collection from people playing.

Re: Alien Swarm, New & Free

Seems you can play this first person to:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-erW8DAOEZg

    Apparently via:

    alias FPS "firstperson; asw_hide_marine 1; asw_controls 0"
    bind "v""fps"

I assume this is through the setting ini file or the console. The comment wasn't to clear on where to do it, I assume its a ini file somewhere as in the quick 10 minutes I got to play last night can't remember seeing a console key mapping or an option for it.

Looks a hell of a lot like L4D2 in FP mode.

Anyone up for some Alien Swarm now?

Was hoping to get on last night then I got stuck uploading 9GB of data to work. I will be about from 11ish tonight no doubt on it though.

Re: Alien Swarm, New & Free

Found how to get First Person working...

    Press Escape
    Options
    Keyboard/mouse
    Tick the "Enable developer console"
    Press done
Press that funny key next to 1
    type in "firstperson; asw_hide_marine 1; asw_controls 0"

And to reset back to normal type in "thirdperson; asw_hide_marine 0; asw_controls 1"

Note: Doesn't seem to work in MP yet though, it says that the server needs to have cheats enabled to "1", so maybe once some modded servers and stuff go up we'll start seeing some pretty exciting stuff..

Just tryed this out, although it's cool to play it like this, you loose alot of control when it comes to being the tech for instance, someone would need to do some minor tweaks and i think this mode would be pretty cool and maybe (for some like me) much much more fun

On a side note i noticed i got attacked from behind alot more lol

I did wonder about FP mode as occasionally a little screen comes up and shows you what's happening at eye level, though not sure how this is enabled as i've not watched enough, been too busy pancing about big bugs

Well with it being a source game I reckon we will see the maps, missions, skin packs etc etc you name it in the months to come. That's if it attracts a modding community to it.

Well according to Steam 63 of my friends have already downloaded it, and it's free and completely open source.

Sounds like the perfect game for modders.. Made by modders for modders

Just wish they'd sign their files a little better Getting UAC popups saying 'unknown' publisher wants to make changes to your hard drive is never good (At least they had a proper in-game catch for the situation)

Haven't seen a single UAC issue with this game. Mind I start Steam manually and with admin rights to get around half the steam issue's with UAC

Still not gotten around to this myself. Sounding very promising from all the feedback I've heard.

Will have to DL it tonight when BT aren't strangling me and squeeze some playtime in somewhere.
