Looking at the forums, the game runs perfectly fine but if you watch your temps whilst playing they will run the cpu and gpu at 100%

This doesn't happen for everyone though, just going off what I've noticed myself on my system and what others have said from the steam forums. VSync and locking the FPS to 60fps has sorted my issues. The issue seems to be that its not very taxing on newer cards so the cards will run the game at the max it can so the cards hit 100% and high temps as nothing stops it from rendering what you don't essentially need.

Re: Alien Swarm, New & Free

What's the code to limit it to 60FPS?
    something like "max_fps 60"? I'm sure that's what it was in CS:S.

I've not had any problems on my PC but my computer doesn't really get that hot even at 100%.

Re: Alien Swarm, New & Free

VSync should lock it anyway, so unless it's some quirk of the game engine locking fps shouldn't be necessary

VSync should lock it but doesn't at times. Just a bug in the game but I have noticed that most of the source engine games including alien swarm has had several large updates through steam in the last few days so I guess it could be fixed by now.

My machine never gets to hot though at 100% but some on the steam forums are reporting quad cores hitting 70c and ati and nvidia cards ramping the fans constantly

I have no issues with my CPU/GPU at all, I have 2 monitors and have speed/utilisation monitors on the second screen and I've noticed nothing out of the ordinary.

Yeah, doesn't affect everyone. Steam forums are rife with it though atm. Noticed it on mine when I first got it, although I will have to remove the fps lock to see if one of the recent patches has sorted it

Re: Alien Swarm, New & Free

Was maxing out both of my cores at 100% (E8400) and would lock/crash the game after a while, in options I turned off the multicore support and it seems to have sorted it (runs at 70-80% both cores without any complaints).

No, I'm on AMD based system. Also running the latest ATI catalyst drivers as its a very new install of Windows.

I even turned off my overclock on my CPU because I thought that was the issue, but it appears not. Knowing my luck it doesn't like something about my system which is annoying as I'd like to play the game at least once.

I'd be more annoyed if I'd paid for it and it didn't work however.

Try the multicore option as mentioned above, this seems a popular one in the steam forums, might work for you

Mm, is odd too as I've not noticed any graphical or gameplay downgrading considering, so isn't like you loose anything from it either. Just hope they fix it.

Thanks, I wouldn't have thought to have tried that, works a charm now.

Odd game, not sure if I like it though.

I like it, but the overhead view becomes frustrating after a while. I had to set the brightness up a bit too, as I was struggling to see the aliens! Can't complain for a free game, though.
