So technically it's not new it's a port of an old mod. So it should be called Alien Swarm 2 really. Maybe it's not different enough to be called 2 I don't know.

I remember not liking it that much, but we pretty much lost a member of our UT2K4 clan to it, so it must have it's good points! I mean he was always up for some UT but only as long as it was Alien Swarm lol. Not much help if you need to practice for an iCTF or ONS match though.
