gaming mice?

Right, forgot i had a fair bit of cash coming my way and one of the things i am going to replace is my mouse. Ive always aimed to get the sidewinder x8 but thought id ask what everyone else likes? Budget is ~£40 really but less is better .

edit: Oh and any suggestions for a new mouse mat? Mines kinda naff now, looking at the SC2 one from steel series(i think) at the minute but any suggestions would be nice for one <£15.

I bought the G500 not to long ago and love it. I've not really delved into the whole software side of it but being able to swap between 3 different DPI without moving your finger off the LMB comes in handy - especially when sniping on BC2

Also, the wheel has a 'free' scroll mode where when you spin it it carries on for a few revolutions, it has a button to lock this feature if you want more precision when viewing web pages etc.

Lastly, it fits my hand like a charm, something I had never considered before when using standard school/college mice, now they feel like cancer in my palm when using them.

The G500 is on Today Only at Scan, at the time of writing this, @ £31.71. That's the cheapest price I've seen by a significant margin, saw one at PC World for £65 lol.

After reading lot's of reviews I made my decision to order one earlier today. It seems to have a very good reputation. Crazy maximum DPI of 5700...

i still use the g5 with a razer destructor mousemat they are both lovely.

I have tried many different types of gaming mice, my favourite is still the MX518. It might be a little old now though, it still uses optical rather than laser but it feels the best in my hand and has provided the best results.

Used to have the sidewinder x8 you will find that although its a decent gaming mouse, you will notice it drop out every now and then. I dumped it and got a logitech g9x mouse. They are around 50ish or were when I bought mine but a much better mouse in every way

As for a mouse mat, I use the steelseries 5QK mini I think it is, works great with the logitech mouse.

You sure it wasnt a dodgy one grey? Its available for ~£37 so pretty good price but the dropping sounds like a damn annoying and perhaps match breaking flaw. The g5 although good im not sure about its size... id prefer a medium sized mouse if possible or just an easy to hold one .

I've had three of the X8's Hicks

Most the problem with the mouse is the drivers but MS sorted them in the last release. I only went with the G9x in the end as I liked the idea of weights to change the feel of the mouse. If you wish I have an x8 here, this one on the shelf got roughly about 5 days use before I swapped. It could of just been the setup in the house that was causing wireless drop out.

If you want Hicks jump on steam or add me to msn and ask me all you like about the x8 and I will answer all questions you have as I put up with it for a year before I got the g9x

If you want hicks I could sell this x8 I have on the shelf (had 5 days use as it was a replacement as I sent it back but later found out it was MS drivers causing the issues) I will create a thread on the sale section to comply with the rules and regs and if you are unhappy with it after a week I will refund you quite happily, that way you can try it and if not happy I will refund the money if you send it back

Just under 3 years old, and I paid £44 for it. Can't believe that I spent that much, but it's still going strong now so I guess value-wise it wasn't a bad move.

I took a blind shot and got a sharkoon firglider off the back of a few reviews when my ocz behemoth died and dont regret it.

yeh i had the sharkoon when it first came out, great mouse but decided to swap for a different mouse and eventually got to this OCZ behemoth.

Taken Grey up on his offer so bought the X8 off him .
