Starcraft 2 for Mac - with no DVD Drive!

    Hey all,

Apologies if this is in the wrong forum - I wasnt sure where it fit best. (i've also posted in the Apple forum but havent had much luck with a reply as yet so hope its ok to re-post here).

Basically I am after StarCraft 2 for my Mac which generally isnt an issue however my 'super' drive recently stopped reading any CD's or DVD's (it just takes a disc in, ticks for a while then spits it out).

I was condidering getting an external DVD drive and a copy of the game which again isnt a major problem but I was looking for a way to save some money on this.

I am assuming this isnt possible due to copyright issues that would arise but is it possible for me to get a copy of the game, put it onto my PC laptop, make a digital CD image of the disc and then put this onto a pen drive and use it to install onto my Mac? Like I said id imagine this is blocked but would be interesting to know if its a possibility.

I again assume that even if I could make a copy i'd need the disc in the drive to run the game is this right?

Oh and I have also notice their is a Digital Download option ... but this costs £10 more than a hard copy and I was hoping to use my Amazon voucher I recently got from work

Thank you for any replies in advance.

    Kind regards,

I don't believe you are allowed to backup media you have legally obtained which I guess means your stuck with purchasing a USB DVD drive (around £30 these days) or you could repair/replace your super drive (is it under warranty?)

    Hi there aXeR,

Thanks for getting back to me - yes I assumed this would be the case. How annoying!
My Mac isnt in warranty anymore no unfortunately - and i'm sure as with everything Apple it will cost a fortune to repair / replace.
Guess my only option is an external DVD drive - BALLS!

    Thanks again.
