    Steam Tabs Update

This box has just appeared saying about a steam update, I thought it was odd to have no information on the bug fixes, then noticed the date...

    Any ideas?

Apparently (according to a brief steam forum search) it's because of the news being blank. Still amusing though

EDIT: It seems that the update was for steam tabs. They're quite good from what I can see, can just click and drag boxes apart while in or out of game - you're not forced to have one or the other.

It's quite useful as I can have a few semi-active conversations going and 1 active, means I don't have to keep the others open cluttering up the screen to keep talking, just clump them together and have the active one seperate.

Shall see how it goes but so far looks quite good

Yeah, the tabbed convos are pretty nice, although I only use steam often to chat to one of my friends, so I probably won't find it useful any time soon. I noticed a bug fix relating to steam freezing temporarily upon updating games, which is nice as that's something I was experiencing.

    Love the screenshot though!

Yeah, the bug fix was welcomed. Yeah, same really, I tend to have 1 chat open that's active, with another with the tabs of less active ones. Also, noticed the ingame browser has tabs

Ah, I didn't notice that. Tabbed browsing is a good addition, although as I'm a student most of the time I play through a VPN, and the steam browser never seems to work well for me, it's rather slow and just won't load pages. Would be nice if they could improve that...

Yeah, I rarely use it other than for opening links that I have sent to me ingame. Nice if there's more than 1 link though or I want to google something (like how to get past a level etc ). I hope/imagine they're working on optimisation for it, it does seem horribly slow.

    Re: Steam Tabs Update

Ah, so it's not just me then? It's always been slow for me, and I don't see and reason for it's lack of speed either, unless everything is being proxyed through steam's servers, which wouldn't make sense anyway. A HTTP request should be simple and fast...

    Re: Steam Tabs Update

My only thought was that it's being loaded on top of the gaming bandwith but then that doesn't explain itself in offline games. I'm guessing it's just poorly optimised servers their end as you say. Probably not worth a major investment for them.

    Re: Steam Tabs Update

Yeah, gaming bandwidth for many games is surprisingly low, and I'm on a very fast connection, so I know it's not that . They shouldn't be directing the HTTP traffic through their servers though, unless they've a good reason to, but I can't think of one...
