Mafia 2 - Full Game- Possible spoilers

Thought I would create a thread so those of us who bought Mafia 2 (on any platform) could discuss it. (Of course anyone who is thinking of buying it feel free to ask question)

First thing I have to say is i'm a bit tired of reading reviews/threads, which slam Mafia 2 for not being open world enough. I was a massive fan of the first game which was closed world, and made you follow the story. I see the first Mafia and now the second one as being like a film, which you can control the character in. The developers made no mention of Mafia 2 being some open world game like GTA4, and so its confusing to see why so many are shocked by the lake of it!!! Mafia 2 is a story game where you have to follow set routes in order for the story to unfold. Although I enjoyed GTA4 the story did jump around a lot, where as with Mafia 2 I know where I am and love it!

Now a few thoughts on the game! I was not overly impressed by the demo not least because the gfx at least on the 360, were not what I was expecting from the game. Secondly, the atmosphere was a bit of a let down really, but I think this may be the tie over from playing games like GTA4. So when I got the game form Game yesterday, I was pleasantly surprised to find that most of my worried had gone. Ok the gfx are still not the best but to me they are a slight improvement on the demo, and secondly the story line makes up for any lack of interaction when not on a mission.

I would have liked to have seen maybe some fire engine or ambulances around to make it feel more real, but the buildings and architecture makes up for that. The aim mechanics could have been improved as it is sluggish at times.

Think i'm on chapter 9 ( not sure) but so far really enjoying the story of Vito

Cant run it at all on PC, very poor framerate on my lappy. Runs everything else absolutely fine but in lowest res and detail settings the framerate is lucky to hit 20 and its quite a bit juddery.

Going to pick it up for PS3 next week when I get paid. Love the first game still to this day, one of my all time favourites

    Did the demo work ok?

The first Mafia is still one of my top games ever, loved it enough to play it 4 times!! Its the only game I have played more than twice.

Just played a good couple of hours. Just "woke up" to Chapter 9, and a ringing phone. Quitted the game there, will take a break and resume later on tonight. So far, I'm loving it. The cops are idiots though. I've always speeding past them, and they never say anything? Only time I got done was when I sped past them at 100mph+ in the hot rod

Re: Mafia 2 - Full Game

Been playing through the first one again this weekend. Just got to the port where you have to kill Sergio Morello, dieing quite a bit as the missions are becoming a lot more tough. More men with shotguns that can kill you with one shot. It is actually REALLY starting to annoy me I've died that much!

Still a classic game though, some of the set pieces are simply fantastic.

Re: Mafia 2 - Full Game

Just been playing some more now. Currently up to Chapter 15, where I have been order to kill Carlo Falcone up at the Observatory. Doing Chapter 14, was a right shocker, I should have guessed from the chapter name. Gonna take a wee break, then gonna jump right back in and see if I can complete it tonight.

Well, I just completed it. And I’m a disappointed to say the least. The ending was crap, no matter how you spin it.

Re: Mafia 2 - Full Game- Possible spoilers

Very impresssed with this so far. Not far into it yet though, I hope (not sure how long it actually is). It is quite linear, but that's fine, it's meant to follow a story I think and sometimes it's more fun than having to find your way through missions from multiple sources like other games.

Only have 1 gripe though and that's with the physics engine whilst driving. On a couple of occasions I have hit lamposts at quite low speeds which have sent the car flying onto it's roof or rolling over and yesterday I hit a curb whilst cornering at reasonably high speed in a perfect car, the car stopped in it's tracks, wrecked the car and almost killed me... Weird.
