My girlfriend was kind enough to source me a PS3 that her cousin no longer uses (read: he's doing too little work and has had it confiscated) and unfortunately there are no games provided. I'm looking at getting my own Slim one day
I've got a couple of questions:
Firstly, the obvious - what games do I get? They need to be cheap - I'd like to get perhaps 2 or 3 that are a decent length to play through. Doesn't matter how old they are, I've never owned a next gen console so anything goes. I've got a few recent games like Oblivion (not so recent), Fallout 3, Mirrors Edge, Assassin's Creed, etc on PC so no point paying twice.
Second, it's an old PS3, the one that doesn't support PS2 games. How easy is it to swap out the hard drives on the old models? I want to get a cheap 320GB or something. And is the data/account transferable if I get a Slim further down the line?
And third, I've got a PC monitor that's got a native res of 1620x1050 or whatever it is - the one that's got a vertical pixel count slightly less than full 1080 HD. Does the PS3 support that resolution or is it only "standard" HD? I'm going to connect it up using HDMI->DVI.
Games I'm looking at to get started are:
Red Dead Redemption
Demon's Souls
GTA IV
Metal Gear Solid
Little Big Planet
Ratchet and Clank: Tools of Destruction
WipeOut HD
GT Prologue or GT5 obviously when it's out
Anything that's a bit kooky, hidden gems like ICO.
Oh, no FPSs please, I'm a WASD guy![]()

Might have to see about getting a monitor upgrade then - worth trying first! Or another monitor.. I've always wanted a dual setup
