OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
After what....10 years Duke is finally returning.
Gearbox (Borderlands fame) has taken up the mantle and will be releasing the game at long last in 2011.
Lets just hope that the hype and wait is worth it, think it will be as Gearbox know what they are doing when it comes to shooters with the overwhelming success of Borderlands, one of my all time favourite games!!

Bit out of the blue, isn't it? I was under the impression that it was dead as a dodo...

Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
Yeah, Gearbox were going to be doing some side scroller shooters in the Duke universe, this though is good news. A decent developer working on something that the masses want.

Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
I'll believe it when I have it sat infront of me...
DNF has been at the stages of "it'll be out next year" for... Well... Forever actually...

Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
It's in bad taste to pull April Fool's pranks when its not even April !
-
Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
A part of me hopes they are just issuing press releases and will continue to delay the release indefinitely without really spending any time or money on it. I kind of hope the vapourware nature of this will continue for a good few years yet :)

I still don't think it'll get finished, it'll be cancelled yet again.

I would have preferred Epic or Valve to finish it off myself as much as I love Borderlands, its just that I'm still embittered by that shockingly bad port of Halo on the PC that had the Co-op amputated that they were responsible for.
As for the game, I'd rather it didn't come out now as I'm pretty sure that it will not live up to this decade long hypefest, even the much revered Half-Life 2 couldn't live up to the expections set by the leak and subsequent delays.
I hope I'm wrong, but, we're probably all going to be disappointed if it does come out.

13 years so far. DNF was announced in April 1997.

What on earth are you talking about? HL:2 is at or near the top of pretty much any reviewers all time best charts.
Looking at the style of Borderlands i reckon Gearbox are a good option. Dont quite know why everyone is convinced it wont come out, even now that its been switched to a competent dev team. Does the game have some kind of gypsy curse attached to it?

I don't believe it..yet..
Maybe it will be finished, and actually released, but theres no way it will be the game that we were promised. It was always years ahead of its time at every leak (until the end), and I suspect that it will come out as a good, but relatively mediocre game next year.
Still, you never know, so fingers crossed! Gearbox have a good history..

I think HL 2 was brilliant, just not as good as it could have been.
And perhaps people would be more hopeful if it wasn't delayed about 5 million times, lol :)

Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
how exactly could it have been better... some people are just never happy

Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
I don't remember much information about DNF coming out over the years apart from 'It's been delayed again ... '. Quite amazing it looks like is finally going to come out but am not holding out for much, Daikatana should ring a bell.
I'm not sure what you thought was wrong with HL2 as well :p. It was by far the most revolutionary game brought out for the PC in terms of level/game design, use of physics, etc. Still the best FPS currently out :)

Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
I rember someone asking a question on games master about if Duke Nukem Forever had been cancelled and even though it was 5 years at that point they put out the party like that DNF was still in the works.

Did you never play the leaked stuff, or watch any of the earlier E3 footage, or AI demonstrations?
I still think HL 2 stands heads and shoulders above most games, but it could have been better; "City 17 was supposed to be a free-form city at the time of the earlier E3 footage".
What I'm saying Biscuit, its got more than 13 years of hype and anticipation to live up to, to live up to even half of the hype, it has to be literally flawless and no, I don't think thats fair, lol :P

Re: OFFICIAL .... Duke Nukem Forever 2011
The only way to be sure is to make an exact replica of the original Duke Nukem 3D and just build it using the Cryengine 3 or Frostbite 2 engines.
Anything other than what we know, after all these years, won't stand up to the wait (I'm sure).
