Hey chaps, i've just been looking in to a bit of a hoo-ha about the (supposed) closure of GOG.com, which after about 24 hours or so transpired to be a marketing 'calculation' on their part to generate internet chat, prior to a new re-opening (which BTW is in around 1 hour from this post).
Specifically they apparently claimed on their website that they were unable to continue in their current form, thanked their customers blah blah blah... and basically implied that they were shutting down due to a lack of interest.
On reading about this marketing stunt, i turned to Hexus to read more, and did a bit of a hunt to get...not very far. Has no-one else reported this? Or are people deliberately avoiding the topic, so as to avoid the generation of interest (which was clearly GOGs desired intent)?
Now, i quite like what they do as a service provider, but I also like what Steam does (superficially similar but mostly different markets and different attitudes). This issue has left me feeling a little bit manipulated, however I get it that they wouldn't have the cash to do a full marketing splash, so i'm getting over that.
Anyone else have any thoughts?
BTW I also get that almost by definition I am again doing their marketing for them. For the record, not my direct intention, but it's kind of hard to talk about a topic like this if you don't name names.
