I'll back the numerous people advising total war games
however as much as I loved playing them, got to warn that empire can be rather (aka very) unstable - may be it will run fine however
napoleon is far more polished but, it's only europe based so not quite as grand.
CoH is certainly a great game, however if you have all the DoW and looking for best way to spend the cash it's probably worth thinking twice - they are extremely similar (both thq made) just look different. I still have both however they are all great games.
It is slightly annoying however how few good rts's came out recently ...
Yeah i will wait till they come back down in price a bit before buying the Total War games. Completely forgot I don't have Chaos Rising yet so that's on the list now as well. Thanks
just keep an eye on steam atm - xmas sale has a ton of trash in it but also some very good titles
I am sure there is a thq pack on sale by the way and perhaps if finance isn't an issue and you like some titles there might be worth investing into it. otherwise they keep having it on sale anyway (chaos rising that is)
and btw - check games for windows - last time I saw it wasn't expensive to buy dow2 CR from them

King arthur thingie on steam is £3.75 today. Seriously considering it. Godd but very buggy seems to be the bottom line. Plenty of DLC comes with it.

I couldn't possibly know your library but if you don't have some of the titles already mentioned in this thread I'd srsly recommend spending a bit more and getting them, especially dawn of war (both 1 and 2nd) and total wars if you have a decent rig to run them on.
DoW : Finished one and two does not do it for me. If you liked the second one I would recommend the close combat series for some squad combat. They might be difficult to get hold of.......
TW: Owned all of them. Empire is pretty stable although is let down by awful AI and any sensible diplomacy.
(I hope you're going to keep posting).
heh thanks - will do, I'm getting some amazing feedback and knowledge from the tech chaps here and being an avid gamer giving back to the community here is the way forward.
as for rts - I own majority of the titles that are even semi-decent on steam for most genres and problem with rts is that there is a few outstanding titles but they all seem to give one more or less outstanding feature.
as for dow/coh (basically same rly) I simply love the emphasis on positioning there and how much attention you have to pay to it constantly.
and TW ... well TW is a classic but I'd run naked through Birmingham bull ring if rather than rushing out Empire they waited and combined Napoleon's quality with the global approach they took in Empire. For me at least Empire had frustrating loading times - everything else was fine really
(bear in mind I was still using my now stolen laptop to play it but it was genuinely good at handling everything else)
anyway - the way I see it with RTS now it's best getting a range of titles and going from one to another every couple of weeks to have it all since nothing quite ticks all the boxes. (and it probably shouldn't anyway)
p.s. installing rome now both out of nostalgia and since my other old laptop can't handle much more than that
Dangle - I just bought SupCom2 + DLC for £4.50ish in the steam sale today, based on your recommendation it's changed a lot! I hope it was the right decision!
Dawn of War II is pretty good and can be picked up cheap these days
age of empires 3 was 10 pence couple month back
If you're looking for something cheap LOTR: Battle for Middle Earth 2 isn't a bad game and can be had for under £10. Not necessarily the most hardcore game out there but passes the time
just got Company of Heroes ad both expansions for less than £7 last night. Thats my day sorted
No love for RUSE?
A delightful take on the standard RTS fare. Plus, playing on Xbox 360 I'm limited to what RTS I can have.
On PC I have Dawn of War II (smashin') , Starcraft II (excellent) , and Empire Total War (fabulous) .
