Me and Gran Turismo 5 have had a falling out..

    .. a BIG one..

.. and not just because I'm stuck either *ahem*

For a start I'm looking at the Metacritic page and wondering if anyone else has noticed it's.. well, kinda half finished, not really what I expected after four/five years of waiting!

What do I mean, half finished? Well, there are 1031 licensed cars yeah, but only 200 or so have actually been modelled in the last four years, most look pulled from GT4 and smothed over a tad. It's like someone at Polyphony put the six guys modelling cars in an office on their own and told nobody else to disturb them for four years, but unfortunately they promised the game to us before checking the team had actually finished their job! The solution.. "Premium" and "Standard" cars..

I can see the boardroom now "But it's ok Mr Takagi, people only ever buy one Skyline and tune the balls off it to win everything, as long as that looks ok nobody will actually DRIVE the other cars!"

Boys, boys boys.. I'd let them off if they'd modelled all the Premium cars to the same standards, but they didn't, I have an A/C Cobra that looks half done and a Peugot 207Gti that looks immaculate.. also, in what universe do you have to live to consider a Bugatti Veyron a "Standard" car, worthy of relatively little attention compared to the aforementioned French hot hatch, which recieves the full "Premium" treatment?

Honestly.. I despair in you Polyphony Digital, I really do, four years, you haven't so much as finished modelling the cars and the ones you have spent time on in some cases make less sense then Belgian tourettes *sigh*

In an effort to hide this shame they have made the menu system almost so complex it takes you twenty minutes to check every sub menu and discover that for seemingly no apparent reason you can no longer upgrade the brakes on anything, anything at all. Which makes so much sense..

There's none of the damage that I'm sure was the reason behind at least one delay, the AI is still woeful.. I could go on and on but..

OH YEAH! The reason I'm stuck..

I'm level 21 or so, have I earned anything resembling a racing car yet? Nah.. and they're all extortionate prices, so I have to sit through hours of B spec racing to earn one so I can continue. Cheers

Don't forget the millions you have to spend on B-spec specific rubber limitations.

Re: Me and Gran Turismo 5 have had a falling out..

am in exactly the same position just hit lvl 23 and have no cars for whats left and not enough money to buy them. I tried b spec and got to level 6 and then got bored stiff.

The thing that annoyed me today was doing the new seasonal events i bought a gtr spec v 09 for the last bonus race stuck an air filter on it and it was 492 bhp which is fine 493 max had a couple of goes at the race got 2nd left did some other stuff went back in to try the race again and my car is 494bhp (I SWEAR TO GOD I CHANGED NOTHING ON IT) so had to remove the air filter to do the race so now instead of being 2 seconds behind 1st place i found myself 4 seconds off of 1st at the end.

and the cars so disappointing some of them
Also has anyone done the Gran turismo rally special events i did the advanced snow and at the start you see some of the people close up at the side and they are so blocky and 2 dimensional its horrid it looks like ps1 graphics.

There is damage, but it's not available straight away in GT mode and it's a rather pathetic attempt.

I'm inclined to agree Knoxville, it's no where near as good as expected The list of problems goes on and on.

Re: Me and Gran Turismo 5 have had a falling out..

I was expecting damage.. but I'm looking and I'm not seeing it. Racing cars seem to be able to lose a bumper or a rear wing but beyond that there's not a great deal going on. If you hit something there's just a dull thud, a tiny dent and a smudge in the paintwork, no major damage and certainly no mechanical effect to any of it :/

Re: Me and Gran Turismo 5 have had a falling out..

Patch 1.03 introduced damage on-line. Ive not tried it myself, but will completely cripple the car.
And patch 1.05 has improved things a lot - esp with cash rewards for the races.

I do agree that im completely underwhelmed by the cars i win from championships. Yes, i got a Veyron, a stratos rally car and a delta integrale HF (i think), but the rest, literally, i said 'Meh'

lol at people who bought this game for SP mode. come on, a game like this shines online fella's. head over to the OF thread and join me and madduck in some epic 30min races on a full player grid with full damage on.

here is just one persons impressions of last nights race, the guy who won:

TBH I am surprised i did with the likes of Lee Pie and C225 racing.

For once i managed to keep my car out of trouble for the entire race. I was 3rd for the first 3 laps and Nikbrown built up a huge lead pretty quick and scooby was just in front, i then spun and dropped to 5th but managed to keep of the walls. To my surprise there seemed to be a few tangles and i was back up to 2nd due to other people pitting. At this point i had , Jonney, Darren (darren i noticed you were gaining on me mate) and Lee pie pretty close behind me. They must have had incidnets because they seemed to drop further behind.

By lap 14 my tyres were shot so i pitted and lee pie moved into second but luckily i think he was having tyre troubles aswell. I soon caught him up and over took him. Nik had a 30 second lead and i was happy with 2nd then the lead was suddenly 15 seconds and i thought allo allo whats happening here?

Then Nik pitted and i passed him on about lap 18 and from then on it was plain sailing as i had a 20 second lead but the last 2 laps were nerve racking and i just couldn't drive properly, by the time i crossed the finish line Nik had wittled my lead down to 7 seconds although i was taking it easy

All in all really really enjoyed it and earnt myself a cool 70k for winning and moved from rank 16.5 to 17

C225, agree with your comments regarding qualifying flying laps, i was on an absolute belter of a lap and 1 second quicker than the fastest lap then i hit someone who was cruising in the middle of the track on the second from last corner, i was livid. Stay of the racing line guys if you are not on a hot lap

It is dissapointing when people leave half way through, until tonight i have always been lapped but hung in there and been rewarded with 5th-6th positions, its worth sticking it out chaps.

Personally i enjoy the longer races, they are epic.

Looking forward to the next installment over xmas

    Have a good one.

O and is it just me but im not bothered about standard vs premium as i cant tell the difference between the two WHILE IM RACING. i dont use cockpit view either and i dont blooming count the amount of pixels in the car while in a race either!

Whats important to me is that their is mechanical damage on all cars AND the handling and physics are breath taking in all cars.

I guess some prefer counting pixels and orgling over shadows and textures ahead of driving physics, each to their own though

There are more problems that just the pixel count. Problems with GT are very many.

Turning the ABS off shows that the physics for all cars is flawed, Not all cars become radically tail happy with ABS off, even though in GT5 they do. And the Brake balance controller is the joke it's always been.
From what i can tell the mechanical damage isn't in GT mode, certainly not any that iv'e noticed despite some pretty heavy crashes, which are to be expected when the AI drives on rails and ignores your presence completly....

    Each to their own though

to be fair, AI in sports games are rubbish regardless. fifa, PES, NBA 2K11 and many racing games ai all suck and never as good and dynamic as a human player.

im not saying t5 is perfect, far from it but the physics and handling are nearly as realistic as rfactor imo. Go and check out virtualR website. many share the same impressions in regards to physics and handling and i dont have to tell you how that website is a rfactor/gtr evo/iracing fanboy website.

are you using a wheel by any chance?

    G25.

There's plenty of critisism floating around any website with a GT5 thead forum. VirtualR included. The Physics may be regarded as good, but that's not the only thing that matters. And it doesn't stop the physics having a flaw with the ABS off.

AI may be bad in racing games, but i'm to play one released in the last few years that's as bad as GT5, probably not since GT4
At least in F1 2010, GTR evo/race 07, Rfactor, GTR 2, Forza 3 other cars seem to react differently to you being there. Rather than continue driving in thier rails.
The main reason i've stopped playing GT5 is that during the GT500 race at Fuji, i'd be infront of the other cars with a slight overlap, and they always try and go back to the racing line and turn you, when contact happens they keep the power on and your knackered. I just thought, what's the point. Just about the first race when the AI isn't half a lap behind as it's on a track i hate and they ram me off the road at every chance.

I have racing games i enjoy racing against the AI, i can't see myself playing GT5 again atm and TBH i would have sold it by now, but am hanging out to see if things are actually fixed like what was talked about in with the quote you posted in the other GT5 thread.
