    PS3 Repair

MY PS3 has died on me ... discs not read anymore. As it's the fat one and out of warranty, I opened and cleaned the lens but no luck.

Can anyone recommend me a good PS3 repair service/company that they have personally used.

From googling, it seems Sony charge £130-£150! > Not much far off from a new console!

    Re: PS3 Repair

Its best to ask sony over the phone to see what they can do.

I cant really recommend a good place, as I never had the displeasure of my ps3 breaking down.

    some site I came across:

It shows feedback on its purchases (althought they are all convienently highly rated ):
    http://www.consoledoctor.co.uk/repair/8/ps3/

    http://www.consolewerks.co.uk/playstation-3-repair.html

I personally would just ask sony and get them to repair it, plus they may also re-new the warrently, well atleast microsoft does this.

    Re: PS3 Repair

Not had one die myself but a friend is on his 4th ps3 due to lense burn out. you could always find broken ps3 on ebay that has a different problem, query them about the drive working before their failure and replace it yourself. it's not guaranteed ofcourse, i've always trusted Sony to repair my faulty playstations. one instance, when my original playstation failed under warranty, they gave me a temporary one to play on while they fixed my broken one. they then returned mine and had no record of a temporary playstation being given to me.
So it could work out well.

    Re: PS3 Repair

I believe LENs burn is a common problem with the 1st gen of ps3's, a simple way to stop this is to quit your game, then switch of your console! Anyway to add, way back in the psx era i contacted (well my mum) sony and they offered to replace the console, very good like that i think! However if may be abit different with yours, still worth a shot right?

    Need to add somethings..
This is what happened in the following order :

1 - Was playing MW2 and game froze after the end of a match and nothing was responding. So, did a hard reset

2 - Discs are not read anymore

3 - Took apart carefully after looking at dozens of youtube videos and cleaned lens. Put back everything but discs don't get sucked in or even if you push it in, they aren't being recognized. It seems there is no power to the Blu ray drive at all!

Will getting a replacement Blu ray drive off eBay help me ?

    Re: PS3 Repair

Still wondering what to do !

    PS3 cost me £200

SONY wants £130 and will give me a refurbished PS3 w 3 months warranty
Blu Ray repair service costs £50 on Ebay

    IF
I sell my PS3 on eBay, I'll get £85 and new one will cost me £200
I exchange my PS3 for a new one on eBay, it will cost me £140 but will come with 12 months warranty!

Selling and then buying a new one seems to be the best idea as I end up losing £115 but I get 1 year warranty.

ive seen a service on ebay where you pay a set fee and give them your console, they then give you a refurb console, that might be worth looking at?

Yup, That's the £140 one I mentioned ... it'a a fraudy way where the seller has a PS3 in warranty but gives your address details to Sony/CPW or whoever and then new one gets sent to you ( source : Googling )
