    Gaming headset

In need of a new headset for my new rig which I should have soon. So far I have I found these:

    Corsair HS1
    Roccat Kave Solid 5.1
    Creative HS-1100

I have read a few reviews on each, but still can't decide :|

    Re: Gaming headset

Personally i've had my Kaves for over a year and 3 months now, can't fault them. The only downside is their quite heavy and tend to leave a indent in your head after a few hours lol.

Soundwise their excellent with amazingly rich bass and accurate 5.1 positioning.

This. While the 'vibration' feature is a bit gimmicky but there are times when it has actually added to immersion such as the folding city scenes from Inception.

Thanks guys! I'll have another mull over it tonight as the Kaves were top of my list. I assume when the Creative ones say 'Amazing gaming audio 3D positional surround sound' , thats the same as the Kaves 5.1 system?

You can basically turn the feature on and off as well by mixing the centre/sub setting in Windows - in fact thats the only way i found out they had a rumble feature!

No the creative is a USB audio headset so features 2 speakers that use 3d sound position powered by a inbuilt chip, hence the USB. The kaves are a analogue kit so use standard 3.5mm hookups, 4 infact, 3 for the sounds front, rear, sub and 1 for mic so require a semi decent sound card as thats doing all the work, my laptop soundcard supports 5.1 but was not up to the task so had to get a external USB one. The kaves actually feature multiple drivers in each earcup, 3 I think.

Turtle Beach headsets are awesome if you can afford to splash out on them...

The sound card on the system is this , which I think is decent enough to have great sound using the Kaves. Hmmm I should mention I will have the Hercules XPS 5.1 70 hooked up to my system as well.

    This.

I have the Kaves and you do get a great sound from them. Got them hooked up to Xonar DG card.

    They are heavy though.

    Re: Gaming headset

What's the difference between a gaming headset and a good pair of ordinary headphones? (Apart from the mic...) Is there any advantage to having a gaming headset vs headphones? I'm just curious...

    Re: Gaming headset

Probably something to do with the speaker balance in the phones. Good headphones for listening to music or watching films accentuate specific frequencies to make the sound more pleasing - I imagine you want warm, rich bass for listening to music, but not necessarily for listening to machine guns and screams of agony... I could be wrong though ;P

Maybe a daft question but are the drivers provided with the Kaves existential to install? Or do they work fine with out?

No drivers came with mine (or anyones I'd guess) as its a analogue headset and all the 'processing' is done by a soundcard/chip independent of the headset.

    DOH! Thx!

I'm guessing I won't be able to have my Hercules 5.1 speakers in at the same time, as there are three wires from the back unit to go into the pc.

Not unless you've got a soundcard, which you should have anyway to drive the Kaves!

They sound pretty special hooked up too my D2X!

I do have a sound card so will I be able to hook both the speakers and kaves up, or will one have to by unplugged to use the other. I know my speakers have a control unit where I can connect a mic and headphone, but I assume the kaves need direct connection to the sound card. What is your setup like? Do you have a speaker system and the kaves together?
