I have it... But all of my friends have stopped playing it. :-(
I have it... But all of my friends have stopped playing it. :-(
I signed up to this last week and spent some time in it.
It certainly isnt beginner friendly... Starter weapons are as powerful as most for it's class but they are restricted by accuracy. 3/20 accuracy for a sniper rifle where long time players can get 17/20 rifle?
It is a game that rewards people who PAY. To get a decent rifle without paying would take roughly a month earning certs (in game currency). Thats just for one good rifle, no mods, enhancements or other character items.
The only way I can earn xp since I can rarely out gun anyone is to be a spotter. Telling people whenever a new enemy approchers, then I get a share of the kill xp. Otherwise its playing the Engineer / Medic in a similiar way to TF2.
Nonetheless, the game is IMMENSE, and also highly addictive even if I can only manage one kill per 100 attempts. The exhiliration of being amongst 50 other players running towards a building... watching comrades fall to sniper fire, and seeing the over head aircrafts engaging in their own private battles is amazing.
The add ons that you get through playing rather than paying will increase the accuracy of weapons. Although you do get XP to buy them quicker if you subscribe, or use boosts.
The situation of balance beteen infantry and air is much better now then it was to start with. Previously infantry had nowhere to hide and were easy kills for aircraft. My highest scoring planetside 2 session was in a Scythe. That is quite simply ridiculous as I am a terrible pilot.
Now lock on launcher are so common its had the effect of pushing the Empire Specific Fighters higher up away from the ground into a high level Air Superiority role fighting other ESF's, Galaxies and Liberators. Great! Now unlike the infantry that could run and hide. Aircraft have a choice. Go for the high rewards and risk flying low level. Or fly higher out of range of the lock on launchers.
If I was a Planetside 2 developer I would not of made so many lock on weapons. They were to blame for ruining a lot of the fun/balance in Planetside 1. At the same time I would not of given ESF's ground attack capability. Again, just like Planetside 1 this destroyed a lot of fun/balance in the game. Whats worse in planetside 2 is they have this whole system of sidegrades were you can't buy more power. Yet for ESF's you can, as you can buy a secondary weapon.
For balance reasons. An ESF is fast, agile, cheap, high firepower, lots of ammo, lots of health, can fly....Way too powerful for one person.
ESF's as Air Superiority only and Liberator as ground attack only would make a better game.

I was going to jump into the game with you last night but couldn't be bothered to wait 2.5 hours for the game to re-download! Didn't realise I had deleted the local files :/
I enjoyed it when I played a few years back. Get a crew and a plane, then attack from behind by capturing the un-defended out posts.
What's in the game now other than enhanced gear?

Sounds like nothing has changed then!
That's why I stopped before. I was constantly one shot KO'd while I could empty a mag into a someone and see no effect! Might re-install just to see if I am deadlier or fodder in my old age.
I played PS2 for a while was really into at one stage and seen loads of alterations nerfs and un-nerfs! 'lol podding' as its know was an efs pilot would take out ground troops with rocket pods quite easily. rumour is one person called daddy on one of the euro servers never played anything else. Highest scorer and always logged when he was going to die. Sounds like they made lock ons pack more of a punch I find the gun mechanics annoying and too many side grades. Also used to hate one hit wonders of shotguns that ruined things too I did have fun in big zerg battles and smaller ones.
RPS run a crew last time I played usually still active http://www.rockplanetshotgun.com/guide/recruitment/
Yes I still play Planetside 2. Although only normally on our Sunday Outfit Ops night + 1 other session sometime during the week.
Planetside 2 is in a strange place right now. A lot of new features are either unfinished or have introduced new bugs that have remained unresolved for several months.
The game is still huge amounts of fun but in limited amounts. Playing more just leads to burn out as so little new content is released and these lingering bugs just frustrate hardcore players who face them everyday. A lot of well known players have left and some notable Outfits have left altogether.
That said the is something of a positive vibe building within the Community. Today, any minute now in fact, the Planetside 2 on Playstation 4 closed beta launch (US only initially) starts. This is something of a landmark moment as it feels like the game itself has had its development put on hold while the Playstation 4 version is finished. With the Playstation 4 version hopefully being fully released in a few months (PC beta was very short too) there is feeling we'll finally see the cash flowing in from PC and PS4 players to fund badly needed future development of the game. Something SOE have committed too and promised to hire additional developers to crush the bugs and other annoying issues.
A community run event is this weekend too. The aim is to claim the Guinness World Record for the biggest FPS battle. This has created a fair bit of excitement. Although these huge battles happen regularly. Getting official recognition has grabbed a lot of headlines on various gaming sites and pulled in a decent chunk of new players.
Planetside 2 has felt at times like a beta. 2012 felt like a rush to launch the game. 2013 felt like an endless battle with performance. 2014 was stuck in cycles of missed development targets and dwindling resources. 2015 gives the feeling this could be the year the game really begins to fulfil the potential its shown from the start.
Should you play Planetside 2 now? If you are new or inexperienced I'd hold off for just a little while. A bunch of features for new players are just appearing in the game. Including a new player Island currently in testing on the public test server. Where you'll be able to learn the mechanics, sort your key bindings and most importantly, earn those crucial first cert points against and with other new players, instead of been thrown to the merciless veterans.
At some point everyone who is a gamer needs to play Planetside 2. If you've a group of friends to play with or can find a Outfit of similar people, the game is unique in its scale and rewarding in a way you just can't experience in other games. Its amazing when that perfect plan comes together alongside your friends and hundreds of other team mates.
The nc and vs have stupidly overpowered guns. My tr heavy assault with Max armour and temp armour abilities gets easily one shotted even at range using non-sniper weapons. Even with an ns15m even with firing into their heads they can often survive.
