It seems great fun to play and moreover, unlike what measurebators are saying on forums,it does appear to run fine even if you don't have a £170 CPU and a £300 graphics card.

I tried Planetside 2 tonight I used to play PS1 I have to say I like it but a from what I understand if you switch servers non of your items that you buy with cert points or station cash follows you? I haven't invested any hard earned cash but if I was what is the best server to play on? I think its outrageous that you cant transfer character to different server without losing all your money if you choose to spend any.

Miller is the top EU server, then comes Woodmen. So I recommend Miller.

They are going to allow server transfers soon.

Really need a new CPU for this game, my Q6600 even OC'ed can't cope in large fights around AMP and Dome stations when there is so many players, my FPS drops down to 10 or starts becomig a sideshow. Changing graphic settings don't help at all, my 6970 2GB allows me to play everything on max, but the FPS stays the same even if I select low. Changing resolution didn't really help.

I find my best fights are late in the evening and late at night when there is fewer online but still 100's playing.

Certed to 50% in command stuff since I been leading squads a lot more often now.

Looking forward to the VS naff fix.

I have a Xeon E3 1220, which is basically a Core i5 2400,with an HD5850 1GB at 1680X1050 on high settings, and minimums are around 29FPS IIRC during the big battles. A mate with an FX6300 overclocked to around 4.3GHZ seems to have similar framerates to me and he also has an HD5850 1GB.

You can improve performance significantly by tweaking the UserOptions.ini config files. I wrote a guide on the settings that work best for me to share with my Outfit: http://www.terranovagaming.com/wiki/...=PS2_tech_help

    Re: Planetside 2

Is ps2 any good, honestly i tried the Beta out and I just didn't like it. I read a review in Edge and they gave it a good score, is it one of those games where I just have to sit down and give it a chance?

    Re: Planetside 2

I feel very disconnected when playing it, I know when things are scaled as much as they are in Planetside 2 some things will have to change from how they are in other games, but going from something like Tribes or BF3 to PS2 makes it feel "off".

    Re: Planetside 2

I tried playing the game and now it says it has 4.5GB of patches to be installed, and even on an SSD it is taking ages.

Don't these stupid companies understand that, these massive patches are not practical for a lot of people?? Moreover, the patch has cratered performance even more it seems.

I ended up shutting it down and running another game.

    Re: Planetside 2

This patch was ridiculous i agree. Apparently its down to a new terrain system (I assume it was needed to add the tunnels).

No idea why we downloaded lots of incomplete stuff either. The new Interlink Facility base is included in the patch. Someone was able to extract the models. Far from complete but we downloaded it anyway.

Patching is slow because of the need to unpack, patch and repack. They need to fix this. On a mechanical HDD its painful waiting to apply patches. I can't imagine those HDD users continuing to show much patience once the new feel of the game wears off.

Adding an anti virus exclusion helps a bit. Thats the only tip I can offer.

Still all minor pain. Nice to see they're actively patching/developing on a regular basis.

    Re: Planetside 2

It wasn't just the terrain that needed changing, there was a ton of audio files that was replaced and updated and lots of texture files for all the new stuff from weapons, bases, camo and whatever else.

I pretty much made it clear what I thought about the latest patch over in Overclockers, but I repeat it here, the Devs don't have a freaking clue and this is typical Sony behaviour on how they screw up every game they release.

The latest Hotfix has made it playable for me again, I couldn't play when the big patch was out.

Had some fun moments in ps2 but to unlock something takes a long time and £6-£10 a gun bit steep when there is a lot of guns and they don't transfer to other characters
