Dragon Age 2 release date check

    Hello

I pre-ordered a copy of Dragon age 2 last year so I would get the signature edition. I was surprised when I received it in the post yesterday. However, it has a release date check on it which is stopping me from playing the game! So although I wasn’t expecting to receive the game yesterday I have still paid for the game and I am unable to play it! So firstly I think it is wrong for the company I pre-ordered the game with to charge me and send me a game which I can’t play yet and Secondly and more importantly what the hell do BioWare think they are doing!? How is this going to stop piracy!? If it hasn’t already been cracked then it most certainly will as soon as the release date is released!? This is the first game I have pre-order because I was addicted to the first game, but if game developers are going to put stupid restrictions on the game what is the point!?

I would like to know your views on this. Is there any way we can stop the game developers doing this? I don’t see them doing this for consoles! I sometimes wonder if they are trying to boycott the PC game industry on purpose for some reason!

Re: Dragon Age 2 release date check

i think the point of the reease date check is to make it that little bit harder for someone to pirate it.

Also i presume you have got your copy two/three days early from release. It's not 6 months early is it. Your opening post is a little bit irrational.

If you were expecting to recieve your game friday and play it then show it a bit of rationality and patience and wait til friday like everyone else. It's only a game man

Very well: Your post shows a woeful lack of understanding of both who plays what role in the publication of a game and the underlying business decisions that are necessary in a product developed for a global market.

You bought the game on the clear understanding that it would be released on the 11th of March. That a distribution company and a retail company have acted to make sure you have everything you need in order to play the game as soon as possible on the 11th of March, rather than shipping out the game later and you receiving it several days after the release date, should only a cause for you to be grateful. Instead you are complaining about it? That's odd, and goes against the wishes of the majority of players who would like to be able to play the game as soon as they can on the release date, not later.

Re: Dragon Age 2 release date check

Trust me, be thankful you have the game sitting there ready for the official release date. I pre-ordered DeathSmiles from ShopTo (release date 18th Feb) and it's still not shown up, in fact only on Friday gone could I report it missing as Royal Mail demand a 14 working day wait before reporting it. Now waiting on a replacement almost a month later and it looks like this one has gone the journey too.

Be thankful you got the game at all and on time

Re: Dragon Age 2 release date check

As with above posters - life's too short to get upset about not playing before the official release date.

Think about it from their end too - they will need to get servers, staff and helplines all staffed and ready; this costs money so why would they have it running before the game's launch?

Re: Dragon Age 2 release date check

Well to be fair ive just had this problem with EA... they emailed me with my cd key etc and it clearly stated that it would unlock on the 10th of March, i preloaded and clicked play(thought why not!) and then the checker said it would unlock on the 9th, fair enough i thought but then i come back after an hour and try again (no idea why) and then its moved to the 10th! And then a bit later my friend mentions to me the date is actually the 11th, my third attempt also showed a change in the dates AGAIN.

In the end i was getting really annoyed with it being pushed back a day at a time and the fact america have it already. The checker didnt work as its been uploaded to popular torrent sites about a week before release iirc, however i just unlocked my game via a proxy and thought... wow this is exactly the same as the demo, i turned it off and will wait for the 11th .
