Re: Hi and Proposed £1,100 new build PC

I have recently spent £1,200 on the system in my profile (see the drop down list on the left under my avatar), only about two or three weeks ago. I didn't require a monitor, DVD drive, operating system or case though.

Re: Hi and Proposed £1,100 new build PC

Personally I'd choose Gigabyte over MSI for an extra year of warranty, but mainly due to the continuing Cougar Point RMA fiasco, although MSI might be more reasonable for normal RMA issues. Scan have had a number of good deals with the GA-P67A-UD4/B3 and i5/i7 CPUs/RAM, and it's often today-only for £132.

1000W seems OTT even for a SLI system, but it's wise to have some leeway, particularly if you plan to overclock (and who wouldn't with a P67/i5-2500K?). 850W might be cutting it fine if you'll definitely be adding another GTX570 (check http://www.guru3d.com/article/geforce-gtx-570-review/8). [So yes, get a 1000W! ]

If you can find another £50 (or save that on some suitable today-only deals) I'd opt for 2 SSDs in RAID 0 (eg 2x 40Gb instead of 1x 60Gb, but ideally 2x 60Gb and SATA3) to give a seriously nippy system, or if you're not in a hurry, wait a month (hopefully!) for Z68 with SSD-cacheing (although details are sketchy, it sounds great).

    Otherwise a nice build.
