For PC Dragon Age 2: High Resolution Texture Pack

    Orginal page from Bioware: http://social.bioware.com/page/da2-patches

"High Resolution Texture Pack for the PC version of Dragon Age II

This will add the option to enable higher detail replacements for most textures in game. A big difference will be noticed on level art especially.

    Requirements:
To get the most out of the high resolution texture pack, we recommend running the game with the DirectX 11 renderer (requires a DirectX 10 GPU and Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7). We also recommend a video card with at least 1 GB of video memory.

Most of the benefits from the Hi-resolution textures will only be seen if you are able to run the game in DirectX 11.

To manually download your new content on the PC:

Download the installer from the link below and run it.
    Run Dragon Age II.
    Open the Options menu.
    Select Video options.
    Check the "Hi-resolution textures" checkbox.

Note: In order to enable the "Very High" setting you will need a video card that supports DX11 and the latest drivers."

Screenshot with High resloution is on

    Screenshot without the pack

so the high resolution texture pack is inherently racist against Ginger people as with high Res textures on the ginger man on the left completely disappears.

I so wanted to get this game and then i downloaded the demo and there was missing textures and seemd very bugged so changed my mind and kept my money.

Re: For PC Dragon Age 2: High Resolution Texture Pack

I'm likewise waiting for a cost reduction (or the game+expansion+DLC edition), but apparently the game isn't getting on very well with nvidia cards in dx11 mode.

That could have been my problem on the demo as i span round on the spot huge areas of ground would disappear and there would be black.

Re: For PC Dragon Age 2: High Resolution Texture Pack

Its working fine on mine, 26 hours into it and recently started Act 3, guessing in the next few days will have it finished.

The high res textures you REALLY notice on the cutscenes. Elsewhere though with everything moving its not that noticable.

The demo DX11 is broken, u can only use DX9. So you cannot see the maximum texture, but the DX11 texture i am quite satisfied.

I get the game from direct2drive at around 23£, try using the code 'vatfree' when checkout. Don't know is it still working.

Re: For PC Dragon Age 2: High Resolution Texture Pack

The black glitchy floor issue was fixed with the new Nvidia Beta drivers, had that myself when I got it. With the main game anyway, not tried the demo, but I assume it's the same.

The high res textures seem to have the most effect on skyboxes of all things, and there's a more noticeable difference in more natural environments, caves etc and in cutscenes as already mentioned. Didn't notice much/any difference on characters which I thought would be prime for it, being an RPG, but I guess it's a lot more work with all the animations etc.

It's not something that's going to wow you at the difference, but I thought it was a nice touch by the developers(makes a change from the prevailing; go away you filthy piwates attitude toward PC gamers) and in some places it is quite a bit nicer, but you could play the game quite happily without them.

Purely based on this texture pack? Unlikely to swing it for me, but based on how bloody good the game is I would say yes.

I'd say so yes, not regretted getting it on launch day myself. I've had a couple of glitches but they were easily fixed, most it's needed was a restart which with the intros off(conveniently placed checkbox for once, yeah not a deal breaker I admit, but appreciated) is a matter of seconds, otherwise good game, good plot, not finished it myself yet, but I want to know what happens next which is always a good sign, usual Bioware attention to detail in the world, lore and building on it with the sequel. Runs smoothly, loads quickly. Loving it myself.

That's interesting - my better half has the impression that the attention to detail is especially lacking compared to DA:O. Perhaps lack of attention to coherency is more appropriate. For example, in DA lore there are apostate mages - ones who shun the rigorous control of the chantry and go independent. The chantry don't like this, and hunt them down with templars. The apostate/chantry conflict was fairly well played out in DA:Origins, and similarly there are quests in DA2 which also involve the same conflict. The problem is in DA2 you can create a character who is apostate (which you couldn't in DA:O), as well as having the possibility of at least one more as a companion. The GF did this, then found herself doing quests for templars related to apostates. So she ends up talking to a bunch of templars with them talking about how bad apostates where, while there are several obviously apostate mages including the main character in the party. She found this rather immersion breaking, though amusing.

I don't know the full circumstances since I only glanced over, so maybe there is some kind of explanation, but it gave the impression of things not having been quite as well thought out as they should have been.

Re: For PC Dragon Age 2: High Resolution Texture Pack

At the end of the first and second chapter a few things happen with regards to Bethany and the chantry and your mother meeting a new guy.

It does kind of make you wonder about the lead character though if you are a mage!
