    Crysis 2 = no dx11 (Apparently). Discuss

    Saw this here.

What are your thoughts? Feel cheated? Or happy about performance... Just interested in peoples thoughts.

Personally, I'd have to say that from what I have seen, it looks phenomenal if it is DX9, and I'm more than happy to have it running at a smooth frame rate rather than with extra DX features.

Maybe they will release a DX11 patch, but I for one arent bothered. What about you?

Yes, completely bothered. Not even contemplating buying Crysis 2 until it's a technical showpiece (I don't like very many shooters )

The original Crysis was more of a DX9 game with a few DX10 features added on top. If the new game can make better use of DX10 features it should hopefully look better and run better too.

Re: Crysis 2 = no dx11 (Apparently). Discuss

crysis was a run of the mill shooter that looked amazing so crysis 2 for me has to either look absolutely sensational or have a story that drags you in like some of the Recent call of cuty games or the last Medal of honour.

crysis was a technical showpiece and when they announced crysis 2 i am sure they said that it was gonna be another showpiece and then they decided to make it a console game instead

And only 16 player multiplayer too that sucks

Re: Crysis 2 = no dx11 (Apparently). Discuss

Thats why I put this up to see if people would equate this lack of tech (whether its makes any actual difference is beside the point) to a sell out/pandering to the lowest common demnominator. From what I have seen in the short time I have played the MP demo, I'm probably more concerned about things like the FOV and the ability to add AA etc as I did find it a bit jaggy, even at 1920x1200 (though the AA is to do with the rendering pipeline isnt it?) rather then the max tech levels.

I have to admit that I did think cynically and that they just deveoped it uniformly and then didnt want to optimize/extend for the PC platform, but to be honest, I know jack about games development, so who am I to argue. I would however take art direction and story/set pieces over tech gubbins, and from the main trailer and what I have seen in video reviews, it does look like a proper Bruckheimer rollercoaster

Might hold off a little to see how this pans out - and wait for the inevitable tweaking guides/patches etc until picking it up.

I don't intend to get this game, so it obviously won't matter to me, but even if I was, I don't think it'd make a huge difference to the graphics, as alot of the eye candy in the original could be re-produced in DX9 by editing config files. Only thing major to DX11 is tesselation, and I can't see that being all that useful in a city full of flat concrete buildings.

I was hoping for DX11 to be in the game on release :| May wait a week to see what reviews say about it. DX11 was not a deal breaker but would have liked to have seen it included, and the gfx do look stunning. Any idea what drm it will have on it?

Crysis 2 is meant to look better than 1. But I dont see how even patching dx11 in is going to help...

    The IGN review seems positive:
