Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

    That's true though.

now, i want to ask about being online.

don't you think having an "N" wi-fi (like the 360) would be superior to only having "B" & "G" like the PS3?

and which console lets you go online (i.e. detect your router and actually connect on the internet) faster, quicker & simplier?
*i read and heard that the 360 is better in this field.

and what is the best way to connect your console to the TV (HDMI?) and to a Dolby-powered surround sound system?

would changing the HHD on the PS3 for a faster 3rd-party one (i.e. faster RPM) would help load the game significantly?

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

They are decent HDD in the Sony machines, Digital foudry done a comparison article a while ago :

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/di...-upgrade-guide

But bear in mind your warranty with that one. My slim is 250 Gb and I have plenty space left and at least 12 games installed.

I have my 360 connected by lan and my PS3 wireless, they both take about the same time to log on to the respective networks. A wired connection literally just connects and is ready. If you go wireless with either machine you will have to enter your wireless key for initial setup, then whenever you turn the machine on after that it automatically logs onto the network and away it goes.

I have found that if you have mixed adapters on your network (mixture of b g n devices) it can slow your network down, in a case like this set your router to g for best possible speeds.

I have both my machines connected via HDMI 1080p, I dont have a surround system yet so cant really comment. Both machines do support Dolby Surround though.

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

I went down the PS3 + PC route. I played Mass Effect 1 and 2 on the PC as this pretty much nulified my need for a 360. Having played both systems before buying the PS3 gets at least 1 hours use a day.

I use it for watching DVDs, Blu-Rays, Streaming Video from my PC, TV Catchup, Freeview (PlayTV) and watching the odd bit on Love Film (just finished SciFi's Dune).

Gaming wise the lack of backwards compat for the PS2 is a stinker. However Uncharted 1/2 and Valkyria Chronicles have been shining lights for me. GT5, FF XIII and MGS4 earn't there wage, but I would not say they were that good.

I've really gone off the boil on FPS's in general this really knocked back the 360 for me. I have come close to buying it almost every year since launch, but the games on offer for me either have PC ports or just don't interest at all.

I am not that bothered by angry men covered in mud whether they are on the PC/360/PS3.

The key thing is are the things that the 360 does right more important to you than the things the PS3 does right? and are the games there? Also are either system's sale point duplicated by your PC/Skybox/freeviewbox/etc

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

well, right now (and going back to my original point) i'm kinda gearing towards the PS3. why?

    again....

    1. totally FREE online gaming

    2. better Divx (and AVI) support

    3. in-built Blu-ray player

    4. top notch and excellent in-house/1st-party titles (which i usually play on my old PS2 like Killzone and Gran Turismo)

    5. friendlier (to the hands) and longer-lasting controller

    6. as a company..an increasing support/cooperation for Google Android (with its smartphones and a future Playstation tablet) with the increasing possibility of more cross-platform cooperation like an Android Market store within the PSN and Google Chrome browser.

can an Xbox 360 beat that.....?

No, because you already had your mind set from the off.

As a side note, my two launch controllers from 2005 laugh at point 5 - Christ, even the batteries still recharge and work.
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

I'd agree with Terbinator about point 5, even as a PS3 owner, the 360 pad is marginally better built, better ergonomically and the sticks are better. Add a usb charging pack from a third party like Venom and they remove most the PS3's pros.

The biggest down side I can see is lack of support for Standard USB controllers like arcade sticks or steering wheels. For example my PS2 era Driving Force EX works fine on my PS3.

This would be one thing to consider? are you bringing over any old controllers, for example: Arcade Stick, Wheel or things like the old Buzz controllers?

If not it makes the USB thing moot.

Also on the subject of USBs the PS3 has far too few and only on the front. I have a PlayTV in one and juggle charging/usb sticks/usb audio adapters/PS3 Eye in the other. It's a real pain. The Kinect has a dedicated port at the back of the 360 slim and I believe one other USB?? though as the 360 doesn't have a tuner and supports less USB devices that is kinda moot.

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

No, i won't be bringing in my old PS2 controllers. i would rather buy a new one. i still feel "at home" and at ease with the PS3 controller.

i don't want to stick myself on the issue of controller (which one is "friendlier to the hands" or not) but i think and i hope everyone would agree (both PS3 and 360 fans alike) that it all boils down to wether you will be playing mostly online or offline and wether you are looking for those in-house/1st-party games.

    can anyone agree to that?

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

they havent been next-gen since they were released

if it is that much of a chore deciding just buy a used one for the game you want to play first, and when you want a game that is on the other one buy a used one of that, done, minimal outlay, the whole x vs p has been irrelevant for a good long time now.

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

There are some games where the PS3 seems inferior but I think these are fairly rare Bayonetta being the only one I can remember off the top of my head but this is balanced by generally better looking exclusives, I guess it comes down to do you want to pay £100ish more for the PS3s extra features and which set of exclusives is more to your taste

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

I'd like to close and end this comparison thread. i have bought a brand-new PS3 Slim 160Gb @ Game in Oxford Street today and i was crying like a little girl when i first saw the box.

As we speak i am downloading Mortal Kombat Demo and have been surfing through the PS Store and the menus.

It's very early to tell but so far i am happy and i hope i will be....

Thank you all for all the infos, advice and help. it really made a lot of difference in helping me decide which console to buy.

    Cheers!

Grab the Uncharted Demos they really show what the PS3 can do especially the second one.

Re: Buying my next-gen console: Xbox 360 Slim vs PS3 Slim

i have both a ps3 and 360 and my ps3 gets used more as ironically, most of my mates now game on a ps3 rather then a 360.

But overall, i game more on my pc as its more superior then consoles imo.

If you diddnt have a gaming pc, i would consider that option as it does everything you want it to and 9/10 console games come out on the pc too. You get to use whatever controller you want. 360 or ps3 or some other third party control pad.

im lucky enough to have both, i like both but i prefer my 360 purely for the fact most of my mates have 360's and i enjoy the cross cross gaming party chats
