    HL2 : Am i the only one....

Who really is not bothered about this now ?

Yeah, im sure it will be a good game, but after all the hyping and incidents, i cant stop thinking it will simply become "another game".
With the news that HL3 is almost a certainity, it semms to raping the HL name even more.

Heres a screenshot from E3 (this one, not last one) : http://pcmedia.gamespy.com/pc/image/...051004_008.jpg

Anyone else starting to think HL2 is looking like an old tech game based on this ?
Look at the houses - blocks ?
The crane dont even look like it has a texture applied to it and is all one nasty out of place orange colour, that is uneffected by light.

Are we being lied to ? Or will HL 2 be the best game ever ?
Is this thread probably going to be overun by fanboys that will claim i have somthing against HL2, now ive said the above ? - Probably.

Im looking forward to Stalker much more myself now.

Has anyone said it will be the best game ever? No-one can claim that, but it should be good. In fact, if its anything less than brilliant, then Valve will have pissed a lot of people off.

We waited, and waited, and waited; now they need to deliver a superb game.

Not sure we'd have been lied to though, if its not 'the best game ever'. To even be the best FPS ever, its got to be better than Doom, Goldeneye, Half Life, TimeSplitters II, Metroid Prime (sort of), Far Cry, etc, etc.

Oh, and - u hAve sumting aginast valuve u D00m fan boy biatch!

Have you read the mag's ?
One i was reading in work had pretty much the exact same words (if not *the* same). I will try to find out which one it is when im back there.

Its this constant hyping, and the lengthy delay that i think will let it down.
What do you think of the screenshot front ? Is it just me, or does it look like somthing from current (if not older) technology ?

Ah but thats because you have an nvidia card

Stalker looks very promising and i cant wait to have a go at a demo of it. Doom 3 i know very little about but i cant help but be excited by the prospect of that classic doom gameplay with gorgeous visuals

Why would that make a difference ?
Im gathering from that reply that Stalker is being optimised for Nv cards ? (which i didnt know about). Either way, ill probably be getting a X800XT for uni

Looking forward to doom 3 to , but from what ive read, it seems they (the media) are pushing the XB version a lot more than the PC version now ?

In the same way that Half life 2 is meant to be ATI's baby the same is apparently true of Stalker. Nvidia have invested a lot of time and money into helping the devloper with this and it does look increasingly likely that the game will be optimised for nvidia harware.

Lets hope these optimisation for specific harware rumors are bs becase lets face it most of us are going to want both games. It should be the games that matter no silly tiffs between the current big two harware manafacturers. At least with games such as Stalker, Doom3 and Half Life 2 we will be able to justify the purchase of next gen cards

My opinions on HL2... Hmmm, so far seems the marketing firms are the winners... As for the mention about the crane... I've never seen a bright orange crane irl, and definately never seen one in such fantastic "fresh from the factory" condition...

My main hope is this... That they don't force you to use steam for it... Steam is (very) slowly getting (somewhat) better, at least for CounterStrike. What annoys me is this... You're forced to be connected to the internet... to play single player half life... Which is precisely why I hope Valve makes a SMART choice, and doesn't pull the same junk that they did with Condition Zero...

I'll admit, the whole emphasis on making things look a lot more realistic is nice, but they weren't the first to pull such off... Unreal 2 looks better than the screenshots I've seen of HL2, to be honest - for realism (except for the guy who's always got a cigarette... And it never burns out, even if you sit there and watch him for ten minutes, but I digress)

well in all honesty HL2 looks like a good game but hasn't really caught my attention as it should of from the original tech video's. Been following E3 and their are better games out there I am really looking forward to. Resident Evil 4 for a start and Doom 3 look to be far more impressive and more enjoyable to play I would say.

Check out this video for res evil 4, zombies and chainsaws anyone

    Resident Evil 4 Video

or even the new Zelda, both look far more impressive than half life 2 imo

Also if you are interested there is a movie its 17mb and you will need quicktime

    Zelda Video

I will no doubt go out and buy half life 2 myself but it won't be a spit second purchase I won't go out my way to play it if you know what I mean. Yes its looking impressive and the screenshots released on the net from people who had the HL2 code leak but somehow I don't think HL2 will be as good as everyone is expecting, its been hyped far to much and people will expect a lot more from it.

HL2 - i dont think that the graphics will be the best about, but as long as it has good gameplay, and a good story line i will like it im sure. Graphics are nice, but i dont think they make a game....
Zelda ^ - wow, that looks pretty impressive, suppose it is going to be a gamecube/later nintendo console only?
Doom3 - looks very nice indeed.
Stalker - havent heard/seen anything about it so i cant comment either way.
    GTA:San Andreas - cant wait

Now need to get that new graphics card.

Zelda is gamecube only i'm affraid, check out the Resident Evil 4 video blockers, I am a big fan of the res evil series but res evil 4, this game looks so good you would crap yourself inside out playing that

and i would like to congrat you on your view of games, once the industry catches on that graphics aren't everything and gameplay is then we may see better games instead of rehashes and bum gravy titles being made. Look at the classics, a few lines a few pixels and you have space invaders and that game today is still highly addictive.

How can you comment on Doom III and Resident Evil 4 being more fun to play than Half Life II, when you haven't played any of them?

I understand that they can look impressive \ boring or whatever, from the few screenshots and movies were seen, but until you play them, you really don't know which is the most enjoyable to play, surly?

The original half life is still great now even though it has crap graphics.

Graphics aren't everything - so I hope HL2 is immersive.

Manic Miner is pants graphicslly but it's a great game!
