    LA Noire - GOTY?

My amazon pre-order came through the door today - one word? Fantastic.

It's the face capture tech that does it. You've got to watch peoples expressions when reacting to your questions (as a 1940 cop) and grill 'em, accuse 'em, tell if they're lieing (or not!)..etc. I don't think that's been done it a game before.

One of the nearest thing we've seen to an interactive film.

    Re: LA Noire - GOTY?

I played it this morning, and my PS3 started smoking...then subsequently exploded, splattering my personal details all over the room.

I jest that would of been great though.

Only one. When in a 'hostage' situation, the aiming of you gun is done with the right stick, rather than the left one. Only a small point though, and this is only in the first 30 mins.

Isn't this the standard for all console fps's? Why would you use the left one for aiming when it's generally used for movement.

Surely you can change that in the controller settings?

    Re: LA Noire - GOTY?

Am i missing something here? Most 'aiming' is done with the right stick from my experience?
Kalniel: "Nice review Tarinder - would it be possible to get a picture of the case when the components are installed (with the side off obviously)?"
CAT-THE-FIFTH: "The Antec 300 is a case which has an understated and clean appearance which many people like. Not everyone is into e-peen looking computers which look like a cross between the imagination of a hyperactive 10 year old and a Frog."
TKPeters: "Off to AVForum better Deal - £20+Vat for Free Shipping @ Scan"
for all intents it seems to be the same card minus some gays name on it and a shielded cover ? with OEM added to it - GoNz0.

    Re: LA Noire - GOTY?

Moved this into general gaming as it is multi platform.

First off, it hasnt caused any bother at all with my 250Gb Slim PS3, guessing this may be something to do with older models of the console.

First impressions, its different from Rockstars usual type stuff. Yeah, it does have a GTA feel to it crossed with Mafia 2 but that is where any similarity ends.

I have done the police officer bits, found the interrogation room bit quite hard to actually work out. Took me a few attempts to actually get it right so it was kind of trial and error, especially reading the facial expressions. Think I noticed the eyes on the time I completed it, they dont look at you when they are lying about something, even when you are looking at your notebook.

The shooting mechanics are very similar to Red Dead, L2 to snap / lock onto the target and R2 to shoot. Aiming at the suspect running away was a little tricky but no doubt will come with practice.

The version I got was from Game and has The Naked City Vice case and also a hunt for badges, in the box it has some photo negatives in an evidence sleeve to help you locate the badges which is pretty cool. Just need the PSN store to come back up to get the extra case file now.

Has anyone else joined the Rockstar Social Club yet, when you do you get an extra graphite coloured suit which improves your firearm skill with shotguns and machine guns.

Add me as a friend on PSN (username : Grimmsqueaker, only got 2 friends on PSN now so could do with a few more for multi on RDR, Borderlands and AC Brotherhood, lost quite a few during the PSN outage as a few CoD players I had as friends sold their PS3's) or if you are playing on XBox add me via the social club so we can track each others stats.

    Re: LA Noire - GOTY?

No it isnt from what I have been reading, just like Red Dead. Nothing has been confirmed or denied, so maybe it will land at somepoint (Bully landed on PC a few year after its 360 release). Just have to wait on that one. Be a waste really though if it didnt land on the PC with its superior tech I would think.

I done the hostage mission mentioned earlier on in the thread last night. Its normal for right stick aiming on 360 and PS3. I didnt actually have to move the crosshair at all, as the first movement the captor made exposed his head directly in front of the crosshair and bang, cya later. Or you can hit his body which knocks him back against the vent on the roof and quickly shoot him before he shoots the hostage.

Finished my first detective case last night, 5 out of 6 with Mrs Black (Missed the note on the back of the photo during questioning), got none right when approached the heating fitter. Missed 1 clue. So got an overall rating of 4, so not to bad for my first case.

Done 8 of the crime missions so far, the call kept coming out while I was trying to get to the bar with the fitter. Funniest one was a mental patient in his undies at the gas station, gave chase and was really close to him but he jumped off the roof, so didnt get a fail or complete screen. Guess that mission will come up again at somepoint.

To me this game is heavy rain + mafia 2 with a hint of GTA in it.

Really enjoying this so far. The interrogations are pretty difficult though, I need to get a hang of it because I get a few wrong. I like the feel of it though, the music is brilliant, the characters are great and the city seems pretty detailed from what I've seen so far. Still in Traffic at the moment, but can't wait for the other desks.

    Re: LA Noire - GOTY?

    I completed this yesterday.

I wasn't blown away by the graphics, although they are fairly good. The game play was decent enough for me, movement, driving, shooting none of these too hard to get used to so it doesn't distract you from the aim of the game.

I never nailed the faces if I'm honest, but I did start picking up on it towards the end, you tend to find it get too repetitive, what seemed like something new and innovative at first just comes to be 'the same old' rather too quickly.

I wasn't overly keen on the story line, it was up and down, and the ending...

I'd give it an 7/10 mainly for the effort of the R* team, but it just didn't seem to work for me, I felt contempt to complete it, but at no point did I ever feel any WOW! moments.

Also, 3 discs was an extreme annoyance, I'd be plodding on through each 'chapter' next thing I know it's asking for another disc, I know it's a 30 second job, but I'm a gamer who doesn't like interruptions when I set about completing a game.

I'm not sure if you can do spoilers on here, so I won't give anything away but I'd like to know peoples opinions of the game and ending once you complete it.

Looks awesome but will be gutted if it doesn't come onto PC, as I'd much prefer it on PC over a console
