im on there aswell... cant these "hackers" just GTFO
That's kind-of what I expected.
Perhaps the moral of this story is that users would be well-advised to do a bit of planning and anticipation, and prepare accordingly. For instance, separate email accounts into "important" and "throwaway", and consider who to give which, and keep a list.
For instance, I track several accounts. One for personal, one for business, and one for "trivia". In fact, I use a bit more than that, but that's the basis of it.
So we could have one for "games", and list who you give it to. If it gets compromised, the worst that can happen is you have to change the email from anyone else you gave it to. But you don't have to worry about "personal", "business", etc.
The same goes for passwords. I NEVER use the same password in more than one place. But some passwords are designed to be high security, other's just modestly so. The "modest" ones have a common pattern, so it might be xxyyyzzzzz.
xx = type,
yyy = target
zzzzz = unique
Maybe, xx=EA, yyy=BFH, and zzzzz= ...well, anything I like. Even if someone gets EABFH11&06, they're going to have a game (sorry, pun accidental) working out what any other passwords might be.
And my important passwords (where either money or sensitive and really personal info are involved) contain no such pattern or links, and most definitely include alpha characters, numerics, and a few "$%^" type characters.
I think we all ought to assume that security at sites like games sites is subject to attack, and potential compromise, and take steps to make sure that if it happens, he damage is minimal. But I wonder how many do?
