    Nostalgic gaming.

I'm currently playing Open Transport Tycoon Deluxe free version of old game transport tycoon. I was wondering what other really old games people occasional dip into or have on their hard drive?

    Re: Nostalgic gaming.

I play the old Commodore 64 and Amiga games quite regularly on my HTC Desire HD and PC via Emulators.

But going for more modern retro I play GTA Vice City, Blood 2, Railroad Tycoon 2, Ghost Master, Shadowman, Thief 1&2 and System Shock 2 to name just a few of them. I love some of the older games, they capture me, I cant help going back to them. One of my all time favourites is the first Mafia game, awesome stuff. I am also trying to get Nocturne running on my PC, kind of worked under Windows XP but just cant seem to get it running on Windows 7, it was the first PC game I ever bought and its still in great condition.

I have just bought Breath of Death VI and Cthulhu Saves the World on Steam, new games but retro looking and play style similar to the old Final Fantasy games and Breath of Fire 3. Got both games for £1.79 on Steam this morning, worth grabbing if you like your old style stuff. Think Steam will have the deal on for the next few days.

I harp on about this on my other posts, but xcom (ufo and terror from the deep) and 40k final liberation are definately games I go back to every so often.

So did you get thief 1 and 2 working under win7, because I'm looking to get the entire thief series from amazon.

    Re: Nostalgic gaming.

Yeah, there is a fix for it which sorts the colour bleeding and automatically sets the processor affinity to 1 core. Also found a cmd line instruction to enable indeo video on 7 so the movies play. There is also a similar fix for System Shock 2. You also have to add a command line switch to the setup exe file from the run command to install the games. If I remember rightly it should be setup.exe -lgnt force (will double check it tomorrow)

Thief 3 works fine without any tinkering, its worthwhile downloading the updated textures for it though. Its a custom mod that does allsorts of great things to the game, you can even have the same onscreen interface as the first 2 games with it if you so please.

I will find all the links for you and post them up tomorrow after seeing Harry Potter on IMAX so keep an eye on this thread. I may have even saved the info on a text file, just finding it, but its just to late at the min!!

    Re: Nostalgic gaming.

Sod it, its on my mind!

First get the file from here :

    http://www.neilstuff.com/thief/singl...r-affinity.htm

This modifys the exe to run on 1 core permanently, its completely legit as it will still ask for CD when you start it up.

Now for Thief 2 & System Shock 2. You use the same file but you need to slightly modify it for each title. Stuff you need is listed so you can just copy and paste using Notepad or Wordpad :

    http://www.thief-thecircle.com/guides/hyperthreading/

Finally to enable ideo video :

    http://www.hubbywifey.com/2010/01/07...windows-7-fix/

There is an easier way however, I just done the cmd instruction and it worked fine.

"Although Indeo video is not officially supported by Windows Vista and Windows 7, simply entering regsvr32 ir50_32.dll into the command prompt might enable the playback of Indeo encoded video." <- This worked for me

    Re: Nostalgic gaming.

For me retro gaming comes in one form: ATARI LYNX!!

Yes that's right, for all of the 50 units sold worldwide I've owned 2!

California Games/Paperboy/Crystal Mines/Warbirds (my first ever FP experience)

Love it, the Gameboy had the titles, the Gamegear had the graphics...but the lynx had the classic titles.

Oh and everytime I wanted games as a 12yr old it involved a treasure hunt across the UK Anneka Rice would have reeled at!

Jesus wept, I thought I was the only one!

Rampart, Xenophobe and Blue Lightning used to keep me entertained for hours. My Gameboy owning chums were jealous of my 12-bit palette. I was jealous of their battery life, game price, game choice, compactness, etc

    Re: Nostalgic gaming.

I have a ton of retro games I want to play, from when I used to play on my Dad's computer when I was super young, like 5 years old.... But I can't remember what any of them are called! God damn it it's annoying!

Does anyone know a website with a collection of screenshots from old PC games? I'd know them if I saw them for sure...
