    Very, very pretty, but is it real?

    I'm in two minds, it seems believable, but I've been burnt before by graphics that look to good to be true(what was that PS3 game that kept sending out gorgeous pre-rendered shots claiming to be game engine shots?).

    Yes, it's probably real. But it's got many other drawbacks compared to traditional render methods such as the fact graphics cards and APIs are all designed to accelerate traditional render methods unbelievably quickly.

    And please show me transparency combined with volumetric objects using this method...

    I prefer ray-tracing to this point atom approach, but that's also not well accelerated by current graphics technologies.

    It'll work better on consoles than PC at the moment - consoles are CPU heavy, GPU weak. This is currently a CPU rendering method I think (mentioned 'software' rendering).

    yes but I think consoles are still pretty weak on the CPU front when put next to even a Q6600

    Lots of objects, but does it look real? In my opinion, not even close, and from a distance when you miss all the small detail it looks no better, if not worse than alot of AAA titles out right now. Also, the textures didn't look all that high res to me either.

    Notch has summed it up very well, it's a scam, not in the "fake!" way but in that, it's nothing new, a voxel renderer is great for static scenes with lots of repeating elements, but it's no good for animated, dynamic lighting and interactive environments. (so great for computer games then )

    What that video is is marketing and spin, designed to create interest, "buzz" and start threads like this one.

    volumetric solids in computer graphics have been around for a long time, it's just not currently practical for computer games.

    I don't doubt that we'll get there eventually, but I can't believe how gullible some people are.

    I know Youtube video comments are no way to judge anything (unless you're aiming to make a generalisation about the human race, then go drown yourself in pessimism), but the vast majority on there seemed to be of the assumption that now this major problem in graphics had been "cracked", we'd be seeing video games with graphics like those within the next few months.

    How are people taken in so easily by this crap? There were even people trying to defend it, or back it up with pseudo-logic, discussing why it would run happily on modern computers without any need for future tech :/

    When the shot went down onto the path and showed the detail of the stones I was amazed, before that it had just looked like very good graphics!

    The thing is I find that I ignore all the extra eye-candy when I'm actually playing almost like tunnel vision. I could see it being useful when you have to go talk to someone and so only have a close up of a face on screen
