id to give release DOOM III Source code

Spotted this on Eurogamer this morn http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...-3-source-code

Loved DOOM III, just a great straight forward blaster, looked great, played easy & I enjoyed Resurrection of Evil too. All good.

    More goodies too:

Finally, id said that if Rage received 100,000 Likes on Facebook, it would give away the Rage iOS titles for free for a week.

I missed this the 1st time around. Bought it at Xmas in a Steam sale. I played it for about 5 mins and then gave up. I don't mind games being hard, but the whole complete darkness and a torch thing? Really?

Some games in the past that have done this, I turn up the gamma/contrast which end up giving almost night vision.

This is good news for projects like The Dark Mod . Could be released as a stand alone, I don't have Doom 3 not have I played it but I love thief and have fancied trying the Dark Mod of a while.

But it's a critical game mechanic..and if you didn't have that it woudl be an entirely different (and much less enjoyable) experience.

The whole point of it is to make you jumpy, to make it more like it would be if it were real..having to creap around and never knowing what is going to come out of the darkness. It makes it fun. Kind of like what Dead Space did in many sections.

ID have yet to surpass the original Quake (I really hope they release it for the 3DS..with quakeworld support!) but Doom 3 was one of their better games in recent years (much moreso than Quake 4...never did like the Strogg storyline), so this is a great move. Some nice indie games based on this should be incoming I hope

AFAIK the last pure id game was doom3, the others have been given to other studios like raven software or splash damage. But yeah Quake 2 was id's doing, I still enjoyed it tho
