    Deus Ex: Human Revolution

So it's released in a week's time (26 Aug). Possibly a contender for game of the year if it's been done right. PC Gamer gave it 94% citing it a worthy sequel to a game considered by many to be the best game of all time, and "the best game I've played in 4 years" - high praise indeed.

We're currently awaiting further reviews to add weight to this assessment. However I have a feeling it's going to be a solid game.

A brief introduction for people new to the world of Deus Ex:
If you didn't play the original you missed out - the graphics at the time were average, but the story was outstanding. Set in a world where organisations and governments fight for control you took the role of a futuristic special agent who has the ability to upgrade the computer elements of your body. The story was divergent meaning your actions and choices in the game affected the ending. The characters and dialogue were rich and deep - conversations could cover abstract concepts and philosphoy to motives and well thought out opinions on the situation in the game. The game offered multiples way to solve a problem at every stage and the levels were vast.

The new game is set before the original when human augmentation is in it's earlier stages. Political and social unrest is rife and there's much controversy over the new augmentation abilities.

Watch the this to get a sense of the game:

    So, thoughts, comments, excited, indifferent?

    Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Pre-ordered the Augmented Edition (Tracer Tong!!!) from Amazon and cannot wait. Although the TF2 items given away on Steam look tempting I must say! Not long finished yet another run through of the original in preparation for HR's release - was going to do IW aswell (boo, hiss!) but it simply refuses to run on my system. I'm a bit of a fanboy, but have seen the opening mission being played - trust me, it's good.

I'm looking forward to this one also. Replayed most of Deus Ex 1 a while back, till a save game corrupted, then never got the chance to go back to it. Started Invisible War, but decided I didn't like it the first time round.

Everything I've read for DE:HR has been very positive so I'm definitely looking forward to it.

    Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution

Does anyone know if the Steam version comes with the extra items and mission pack? Or just the TF2 stuff? I'm in work and can't check!

I played the first ten hours of the game - no fence sitting required, seriously.

    QFT!

Also I changed my order to Game (seems about the cheapest with the most pre-order stuff) as you can craft the TF2 items anyways . Anyone find a better place to order?

Never really got into the first one, not my cup of tea at the time, but there seems to be a good buzz about this one, after the slightly naff second. Might read up a few reviews to see if its worth it.

Same here! At least we will be able to play at the first possible moment! I didn't fancy braving the inevitably crawling Steam servers on day of release .

If it's steamworks then you will still have to battle with the crap steam downloads More and more games on DVD are needing to grab 2+GB from steam these days. MW2/Black Ops, Dawn of War 2 were all the same xD

Crap... it's been ages since I bought a boxed game - I think Shogun 2 was last and that didn't need anything luckily. Is there pre-loading for Steamworks games?

There normally is pre-loading for games so I gather this one has a good chance of pre-loading 24 hours before release as usual on steam.
