Deus Ex: Human Revolution
So it's released in a week's time (26 Aug). Possibly a contender for game of the year if it's been done right. PC Gamer gave it 94% citing it a worthy sequel to a game considered by many to be the best game of all time, and "the best game I've played in 4 years" - high praise indeed.
We're currently awaiting further reviews to add weight to this assessment. However I have a feeling it's going to be a solid game.
A brief introduction for people new to the world of Deus Ex:
If you didn't play the original you missed out - the graphics at the time were average, but the story was outstanding. Set in a world where organisations and governments fight for control you took the role of a futuristic special agent who has the ability to upgrade the computer elements of your body. The story was divergent meaning your actions and choices in the game affected the ending. The characters and dialogue were rich and deep - conversations could cover abstract concepts and philosphoy to motives and well thought out opinions on the situation in the game. The game offered multiples way to solve a problem at every stage and the levels were vast.
The new game is set before the original when human augmentation is in it's earlier stages. Political and social unrest is rife and there's much controversy over the new augmentation abilities.
Watch the this to get a sense of the game:

So, thoughts, comments, excited, indifferent?

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Pre-ordered the Augmented Edition (Tracer Tong!!!) from Amazon and cannot wait. Although the TF2 items given away on Steam look tempting I must say! Not long finished yet another run through of the original in preparation for HR's release - was going to do IW aswell (boo, hiss!) but it simply refuses to run on my system. I'm a bit of a fanboy, but have seen the opening mission being played - trust me, it's good.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I'm looking forward to this one also. Replayed most of Deus Ex 1 a while back, till a save game corrupted, then never got the chance to go back to it. Started Invisible War, but decided I didn't like it the first time round.
Everything I've read for DE:HR has been very positive so I'm definitely looking forward to it.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Does anyone know if the Steam version comes with the extra items and mission pack? Or just the TF2 stuff? I'm in work and can't check!
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I'm really excited for this. Going to make sure my calendar is clear for a few days around release :)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Dx1 was legendary, I'm on the fence with this one, I'm waiting for the reviews
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Just got a email saying my game pre-order for the augmented edition is being processed :P
Hoping this will actually work on my ageing laptop lol

I played the first ten hours of the game - no fence sitting required, seriously.

QFT!
Also I changed my order to Game (seems about the cheapest with the most pre-order stuff) as you can craft the TF2 items anyways :). Anyone find a better place to order?

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
And its in the post :P go GAME !
Though if memory serves its steamworks? so will make little difference when I get it lol
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Never really got into the first one, not my cup of tea at the time, but there seems to be a good buzz about this one, after the slightly naff second. Might read up a few reviews to see if its worth it.

Same here! At least we will be able to play at the first possible moment! I didn't fancy braving the inevitably crawling Steam servers on day of release :p.

If it's steamworks then you will still have to battle with the crap steam downloads :P More and more games on DVD are needing to grab 2+GB from steam these days. MW2/Black Ops, Dawn of War 2 were all the same xD

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Crap... it's been ages since I bought a boxed game - I think Shogun 2 was last and that didn't need anything luckily. Is there pre-loading for Steamworks games?

There normally is pre-loading for games so I gather this one has a good chance of pre-loading 24 hours before release as usual on steam.

If you're not fussed about TF2 promo items, you can get it cheaper from GreenManGaming.
http://www.greenmangaming.com/?gmgr=coziwilo
and also using the discount voucher 20SUM-MERSA-VINGS at checkout.
The url link is a referal link which if you spend a minimum of £5 you'll be credited £5 on your next purchase. You don't need to install anything, you get a steam key in your account/games library which you just add as normal on Steam.

Time to get your pre-orders in. An average score of 88% does not lie:

Interesting site:
http://www.sarifindustries.com/en
It's the website of one of the corporations in the game, it's currently being "hacked" :D

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Got mine on order from ShopTo downloads. Hopefully they'll get the key to me before the actual UK launch day. If not I'll likely just plug the key in on Friday before work and leave the PC on, should be down by the time I get home for the long weekend.
Better stock up on beers then, eh? I suspect that Friday may be a late night.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Just bought it on Steam, got the standard edition.
Its pre loading at the moment so come Friday morning after I get back in from bringing the horses in and feeding them I should be good to go.
Really looking forward to playing this one more than the origional

Started Pre-Loading last night and the 10mb line is killing me, roll on the 30mb line when it lands :D
Looks decent, loved the first, second was too simple so lets see if this gets it just right :)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Think yourself lucky with 10Mb
I get just under 4 Mb where I live so I will need the extra day just to get it downloaded!
At least with Steam and preloading the game is there and ready for time of release
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
i've stopped myself in recent years getting excited about games that are coming out but after reading rps.com review i can't wait. it really sounds special, or at least special compared to what other games we've been treated to recently on the PC.

I used to be on the 20mb line then recently moved to new house so the modem I had would get me 10mb as they wouldn't swap the 20mb over as they don't offer it anymore and the 30mb is a 3 week wait so stuck with the downgrade to 10 for now, once things settle I think I will go to 30mb :)

Anyone had their pre-order arrive from Game yet? Still waiting on mine (posted Monday).

Can't wait to play this. I think the first game has got to be in my top 3 favourite games of all time. Absolutely superb. And watching the trailer for this game makes my skin tingle. Looks awesome! :)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Getting a bit worried now as my Game order still is not here lol.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
As long as it arrives by tomorrow.
Its a Steamworks title so you wouldnt be able to play it till the morning anyways. Disc version just means you dont have to download it.
Mines ready to play, midnight tonight if I'm still up!

Mine neither - and I don't seem to be able to track it anymore, the tracking link just takes me to the main Game page now. Any developments since you posted Jasp?
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Hmm... seems to be a recurring theme, mine also STILL hasn't arrived either, tomorrow is the big day and its not looking good for game :/
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Nope :( hoping it arrives tomorrow as was posted on Saturday, so say hit royal mail Monday should of been here by Wednesday first class. Game website has also been fubar all day so can\'t even check the tracking..
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Ah, got my code from ShopTo - can\'t grumble for £19.99. Loading now, won\'t get chance to play til after work tomorrow anyways, but the fridge is stocked with beers so it\'s all good.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Just playing it now - awesome.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Simply awesome.
Theres loads of posts and threads round the net saying that PC users have been done again with a poor port.
I am running it in 1920x1080 with everything on maximum and DX11 and its sweet. Very good looking game if you have the hardware to run it in all its glory.
Game itself is excellent. Done the first section, no takedowns in it, just done the cover and move then shoot them in the head. I like the way they start searching for you in the direction the shot came from.
Started first mission and it is really cool
-

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Yes definately. There are so many ways you can tackle the objectives. You can literally play it the way you want to.
Visually it is stunning, well worth the long wait for it. Definately one of the best games released this year so far
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I\'ve been cautiously looking forward to this game, but having been burnt with DE:IW I held off preordering. Going to be stuck in limbo without access to my PC or internet for the next week, so will check the user scores and decide then.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Pre-Loaded last night, should be able to get a few hours on it this evening :D Looking forward to it. Will probably be Sunday before I get any decent amount of time to make head way into the game.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Not at all happy, posties been and no game :(
Looking on their net it seems a lot of people are in the same boat, shipped confirmations and no game.

I am assuming this is Game, Amazon or ShopTo.net as they are all as bad as each other for missing pre-order dates on deliveries.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Yer Game, not helped by the fact their website is undergoing a revamp on the biggest game launch of the year so can\'t even access my account or tracking. Not a happy bunny, still like a boxed retail copy myself not into the whole digital download quite yet.

Pretty much all PC is digital download for me these days. The likes of Battlefield and Modern Warfare/CoD are retail as I will buy the cheapest version I can find then stick the cd keys into steam/origin and download them the next time I rebuild :D
Only reason these two games go retail is I refuse to pay the £35- £40 digital download price tags, I can normally find a retail pre-order deal around £20 - £25

Same here mate. Absolutely gutted - wish I'd just got it through Steam now tbh. Having to sit back and watch the console crowd go on about this 'new game' is horrible... Been waiting around ten years for this! I was going home from work early but now I'm staying with a foul face!

Its not modern warfare 3 and requires some thought, was gonna be the initial reaction tbh lol. Hardly touch the PS3 these days and if I do its to play PS1 and PS2 games like FM3 and Final Fantasy 10.
Wonder were Game have gone wrong then if they was posted on Saturday.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I'm currently in China. Looks like Bladerunner!
First boss was tough, figured a way to sort him out though and it was pretty easy to do.
When you get to China, near where you start on street level on the left is a brothel. Head all the way up the stairs to top floor and a woman will tell you about some people fighting and she cant get her bag back. Head in and the woman in there will give you a few side quests. Malik will also give you a few side quests about a friend, make sure you have plenty hacking tools after you speak to someone called Lee, you need them for a hack after the conversation, your level needs to be upgraded to 3 also.
Few decent individual story arcs in China (was a few decent ones in Detroit also but I feel China is better)
Managed to find a few ways through to restricted areas also now in China making life a little easier, especially the cordoned off area.
Clocked up nearly 12 hours so far and it still feels like I have only scratched the surface. Next main mission is going after a hacker.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
So got my copy in the post this morning, managed to get out of work early at 3:30pm, gets all sorted for work tomorrow then mother shows up FFS ! lol
Just got to sit down now and actually see if it works on me ageing laptop, wish me luck.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Loving the game, just far to many bugs though, the random lock ups when you get to a cut scene is getting annoying, I have to save the game all the time before I go into the major missions. Will be a great game once they patch a few things :)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Add me to the list of loving it
Got a good 12h in yesterday.. only had one cut-scene lock up so far, but the whole game plays well, blending the action and stealth..
Only annoyance is when in cover theres no way to "stick head round corner and aim"
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Eh? continue holding right mouse button and press hold A or D and you stick out, press middle mouse and scope works as well, think it really only works well with lasers.
Also enjoying the game, took me long enough just to do the first mission by tranq darting everyone :P
Only think I'm not loving is the inventory, the fact you have to upgrade it, I hate leaving things behind lol, got the augmented edition so started with 2 extra guns in my inv so no space left.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Keep hold of 2 EMP grenades for the end of the first China section when you are told to go to a hangar for extraction. You will need them as heavy weapons make things more difficult than what it actually is.
Love this game, clocked up about 16 hours on it so far

Sounds a lot like the first mission on the first game! :)
Money's a bit tight this coming month (LAN and stuff), so I'm going to have to be patient and get it at a later date (maybe in a Steam Sale; probably Xmas! :P). Will also give them time to patch it up a bit.
Glad to hear it's living upto people's expectations. IW was bit of a let down (even more so as one of my save games got corrupted so never finished it).
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Enjoying this game - I can imagine that there'll be many more hours spent lost to this game. Was thinking of buying Space Marine, but think I'll just wait for it to drop in price - this will likely take me through to SWTOR. Can't imagine me struggling to replay this:)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Yer enjoyed my little play last night, sadly out and about today so can't sit down yet but just got out into the main area of Detroit and already run into a gun smuggler and found myself a stun gun in a lock up :P, found passages blocked by carts i can't move without upgrades.
Love the fact its just as hard as the first one, make a mistake and you get punished for it, loving the art style also, yes it does look dated but plays fine even on a aging laptop like mine.
Anyone found out how to use the punch threw walls? not found any yet do they show up with a outline?
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
You will notice cracks on the walls that can be punched through. It does outline them also if there is one there, it shows a door sized outline in yellow (like anything else in the world that can be interacted with), then you just hit the required button / key to smash through it. Bear in mind though, if you do this and there are guards near it will trigger an alarmed state due to the noise.
**slight what could be construed as spoiler below!!**
I've just reached the 2nd human / cyborg boss (dont know if the 2 huge robots count as a boss or not that were at an extraction point) Either way another damned tough boss battle that can kill you in seconds. Have to omit combat and see if there is something is there that helps methinks!!

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
They really don't detract from the game itself and play into the art style of the game, just looks a little odd looking in the shop windows and it looks like something from a 2000 game lol.

I would say it was my best game if it wasn't for the damn bosses :censored:. They're so detacted from the rest of the (frikin' awesome) game that it's such a shame they were ever included. I nearly considered starting again as it was (almost) impossible to defeat the 2nd boss with the augments I had (I literally tried about 15 times, all with different strategies to no avail... raged, went back to it a day later and managed to win with ---> 003 <--- health left. If I'd of died I would have rerolled the character and lost 13 odd hours of game time).
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I read somewhere (god, I read to much) that it's actually the CPU which is more of a bottleneck in terms of FPS in DX:HR than the GPU :P
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I think I've encountered a bug which stops me from progressing (or I'm incredibly unlucky). After going to Shanghi I wandered into the brothel and poked around in the rooms, came across the locked room on the 3rd floor and immediately hacked it. Entered the room some guy goes "you're not meant to be here", pulls out a gun, so naturally I kicked his face in and dumped the prostituted body off the balcony, as you do.
Anyway, turns out you need to steal this guys security card for the 2nd mission. I go there and realise I'd already been there. Luckily his security card is now on the floor (but under a glass table) and I can't pick it up. Hence I can't complete the mission! Argh.
So don't enter this room when you first go to Shanghi.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Even if you do it the right way the card is in the same place, glass table at the end of the bed. I had to crouch down to pick it up. But managed with no issues.
2nd trip to Shanghai now. Trying to find the sewer that does the Talion A.D quest, got the start for it, found the guard and his PDA says head into a sewer but there is no directions. Ended going through a sewer that continued the story missions inadvertently, at least I wont have to do that run again.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Tried the Police Station a couple of ways, damn those cops are trigger happy, next time i play this game i'm taking no prisoners! This time round its all stealth and hacking :)
Loving it :)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
See, I just talked to the guy behind the glass and managed to talk him into giving me access to the morgue, also went for a snoop around using the vents to hide.

He's the only guy who I haven't won an argument with so far. In fact I found him so frustratingly stubbon in not letting me through that when I did manage to sneak in I hacked the door to reception and shot him in the back of the head with my silenced pistol.
... Yeah, don't mess with Jenson! :whip:

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I finished it with 29 hours play on Tuesday. Only missed the Cloak & Dagger mission.
To get the 4 different endings in 1 fell swoop make sure you talk to Taggart and Sarif on the last sections of the game. Taggarts location is off the outdoor walkways after you speak to the guy with the beard in the control room. Instead of following the marker he is on the second level down off to the left.
You get a call for help from Sarif as you see the walkway blocked by some boxes you jump over. If you jump over them and havnt spoke to taggart you cant get back, so make sure you do that first. Then once you jump over the boxes there is an elevator, use that and Sarif is in that area, behind some crates that are blocking a doorway.
Then after taking out the boss walk into the control room and save after you get the speech and the buttons open up. Left side is Sarifs recommendation, right side is Taggarts, middle is about you and the door to the left is the final one. So you can watch one then load and watch the next and so on. Dont forget to watch right through the end credits to get the D Project achievement and a small sequence which ties into the first game in the series.
Definately been my favourite game this year, would love it if they remade the first one using HR game engine and mechanics, would work so well.

I started that way, got about as far as the third mission, got side tracked with weapon upgrades so just decided to kill or use the knock out move depending on how I feel xD Sometimes it's both, knock them out, loot them and then shoot them in the head as it still counts as no kill :)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Have to say, I'm very impressed with this. Playing it slowly (one-and-a-half main missions, one side mission completed so far) but loving every minute...especially as I'm using stealth and hacking.
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
really want this game...but waiting for its price to drop a little more :)
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I had to dump 14 hours of game play. I still have the save at the second boss but I focused on hacking and stealth/recharge, get to boss and you need the armour to survive the electricty when it hits the water soaked floor. Seen it done without it but that person had 10 health packs I have 3 xD So stupidly my other save was 14 hours ago and at the start of the second arc to get to the second boss so I have all the side quests to do again.
In a way I don't really mind as I am now looking in places I skipped over last time but its a ball ache that I have to do them all again. There are points though where I am running through it quickly so I am probably gonna miss out on points I need to gain to get more praxis kits etc. Trying to remember where all the side quests are.
Great game, but a shame there are points where if you don't follow a specific path in upgrades (which you don't know you need as there is no mention of upgrade paths for certain bosses in the game) then the game is essentially a dead end. I've tried numerous times with health packs to kill the second boss without the upgrades but by the time you get her to attack the second generator you have no health packs and you go down faster than here.
Lesson learnt really, I should be more proactive with the multiple saves xD
-
Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
*Spoiler for defeating second boss*
There's 2 areas either side of the room where there isn't water. Place an EMP mine in the middle of the floor, get her to run into it, she'll be EMP'd, but if you placed the mine centrally (in the square manhole cover thing) the water won't be triggered. Move up to her ASAP and unload as much chain gun ammo into her as possible, aimed straight at her head. I took her down in 1 volley. This was on hard as well.

I've tried numerous times with health packs to kill the second boss without the upgrades but by the time you get her to attack the second generator you have no health packs and you go down faster than here.
Lesson learnt really, I should be more proactive with the multiple saves xD
I had the same problem, although got lucky with this boss and was able to carry on and it didnt really effect the rest of the game for me.
I adopted the tactic of staying around the central area so as she charged I could dart round the corner, luckily she glitched and got stuck on one of the cables coming out of the floor, so I just sat behind her pumping ammo into her until she died :D
Thoroughly enjoyed the game to the point im considering doing a replay but without killing people.
Played it on Hard, took about 24 hours although I know I missed a few things which is another reason for the play through.

You are the third person to mention this glitch xD I still have the save so I might give it a try but going back to the start of China, I am finding a lot more that I missed the last time, just not looking forward to hitting the TV station again as I literally checked every room and hacked everything I could for the XP, will have to do that all again if I stick to the previous save.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Yeah I know I missed some stuff so I am very tempted to get hold of the strat guide and get all the upgrades and stuff I can.
i wasnt able to complete part of one of the side missions as my hacking skills werent high enough :(

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
2nd boss, as she charges you all you need to do is hit her with the stun gun (not tranq dart)... It'll short her out long enough to pump a clip into her, but back away cuz she generally will still do her Typhoon as she recovers...
Rinse and repeat 3 or 4 times.
Got to the helicopter crash last night and idiot that I am, forgot all my emp mines/nades at home

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Well was expecting a super hard mega boss for the 2nd one, 3 rockets later she's dead, very disappointed. :P

I went the other route and ended up with heavy machine gun, 150 health, pistol, shotgun, tried for a few hours on the hardest setting to take her out and wasted all ammo I had (maxed ammo too) and she was still standing xD did the stun trick but she won't go down. Wished I had the fraps footage for it as I literally pumped max ammo with full capacity from piston, revolver, shotgun, combat rifle and heavy machine gun and she was still standing xD I either have a glitched second boss or I need to restart from another save and go the armour route.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
Spolier:
Code:
You don't have to pump any ammo into her from what I understand, just stun her in the power grids 3 times on the outside and she's dead, if you search the outside lockers their should be EMP mines which you can place on the power grids so she fries and they explode at the same time. That was on medium so you may need more power grids.
On a side note why doesn't this forum have damm spoiler tags lol.

I can't use that method as it requires either health packs or armour due to the whole floor being electrified when the grids blow, they fry you faster than they fry her. I have no armour upgrades at all and went strength, stealth and hacking.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I did that second boss with no armour upgrades as well. It took a few retrys but I just made her typhoon into the power generators on the walls and jumped around like a loon when the elctricty went arcing through the floor.
I did this with 3 x painkillers on normal difficulty.
Overall tho... I was a bit dissapointed. I felt there was a bit of a lack of side quests (I did most of them) and frankly the ending has limited the replay value for me. I might fire it up to check out the 3 endings I haven't seen but I doubt it will get another play through.
Couple of things I also didn't like were the inventory (auto arrange button for the love of JC denton!) and the fact that you could only recharge one energy bar at a time, I think there should have been an aug to allow you to recharge 2 or 3 bars. I find the idea that as Jensen gets tired what he really needs is a twirl to get him back into the combat farcical.

Thats the thing Gaz, on Normal or Easy you can bunny hop all over the place. On the Deus Ex mode you go down in 4 seconds due to the charged floor xD
I'll keep trying it but for now gone back to an older save and working through again but getting all side missions too :D

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
You just need to do the last level again from the point after the discussion in the control room. Speak to Taggart and Sarif and it unlocks all 3 endings. Mentioned their locale previously in this thread. Just save it before pressing a button then reload after watching each ending. My favourite one was the Sarif ending, very profound and makes you think.
I will play through it again, just not yet though. Cant wait for the DLC that is landing in October for it also.

Re: Deus Ex: Human Revolution
I did get all 4 options at the end, I just couldn't be arsed watching them all.
I did enjoy this game, however I don't think it lived up to the hype. They never do.
I am really really hoping that BF3 proves to be the exception.
