    Elder Scrolls Mods

    Hello!

I've been wanting to play Morrowind for a while now. It was top on my Steam wish list, and when it came on sale during QuakeCon I snapped it up (along with Oblivion GOTY deluxe, all for £10!!!).

I know there are a gazillion graphical mods, like the improved water shader:

I'd like to know which are the best and most comprehensive graphical mods for Morrowind (and perhaps Oblivion) in your boundless wisdom (I do not kid ). Or even other mods that improve the game but don't detract from the original game experience.

    Many thanks.

Also, is it particularly easy to install mods when the game is from Steam? Thanks again.

    Re: Elder Scrolls Mods

For Morrowind I would suggest Morroblivion.

Its an overhaul mod that loads the Morrowind Game into the Oblivion engine. They have included a ship between Anvil and where you start in Morrowind so you can travel between the 2 games and do the main quests etc. To get it running you have to have Bloodmoon and Tribunal also (which are part of the GOTY). Makes Morrowind look and play so much better than when first released.

I would also recommend getting the small editor for Morrowind and remove the Skyracers, they are an absolute pain to kill if you decide to avoid Morroblivion. They just follow you around wherever you go until you manage to kill them, they dont swoop down on you so you need ranged weapons and plenty ammo for them. One of the most annoying aspects of any game ever I thought so I removed them!!

Installing the mods with the Steam version is pretty easy, they go into your mods directory, then on the splash screen there is an option to load / manage files. You just literally tick the ones you want enable (description is on the right) and thats it done and activated for the next to you load the game to play.

    http://morroblivion.com/

You can get all the files needed from there and it tells you which mods you need to get it up and running correctly and full instructions on how to do it. Looks more complicated than what it actually is.

    Re: Elder Scrolls Mods

Isn't that the one that all the modders went ballistic about because they hadn't been asked permission?

If so, I don't think it's such a great idea - according to the reading I did a couple of weeks back, the guy hasn't updated it since the all the trouble kicked off and there are meant to be various bugs.

http://morrowindoverhaul.net/blog/ is a better option - fully supported by all the modders whose work is included and still being routinely patched and updated as we speak

    Re: Elder Scrolls Mods

Aha. Thanks. Where it says "sound overhaul", I assume they haven't destroyed Jeremy Soule's work? That is one of my favourite things about TES

    Re: Elder Scrolls Mods

Not sure, but I doubt it. The whole ethos is to keep it as close to the original as possible, using improvements and fixes as opposed to wholesale changes.
