    Driver: San Fran

Am I right that this is a remake of the original Driver on the PS1?

    Re: Driver: San Fran

Only in the loosest sense of the term remake.

It's a continuation of the franchise (Driver 1 and Driver 2 on the PS1, Driv3r, Driver: Parallel Lines), and has a variety of features that were never in the original... for instance some sort of bird's eye view that lets you magically switch from one car to another.

On the flipside, I think they are making an attempt to go back to the Driver 1 ideals as opposed to the poor knock-off of GTA that Driv3r and Parallel Lines attempted to be.

Right, I getcha. I might be interested in this, Driver on pS1 was cool, even if the driving physics were rubbish. I can't remember if I played Driver 2 or not...

    Re: Driver: San Fran

Driver 2 was pretty much the same, except you could get out of the car and take other ones. The people just used to run away, couldn't even run them over, so it wasn't much different in the end.

Driv3r and Parallel Lines were pretty poor, so it's a bit of a lottery as to whether this is any good or not. Personally I'm hoping it just goes back to the driving and forgets about all the modifying/walking/shooting that turned it into a GTA clone but who knows.

Aye, a next gen game based purely on the getaway / driving element (with a great story thrown in) would be ace. Spent many a happy hour on Driver 1. Especially the movie editor thing which was great fun.

Yes... one thing in this is that in Driver: San Francisco, John Tanner, undercover cop and everyman has the ability to shift from one person to another and take over their body as they drive around the streets of San Francisco........!

The original Driver was a great game for it's time, I remember putting in a lot of hours playing it.

    Re: Driver: San Fran

Ive only heard good things about this game so far, I think most people are sceptical of the driver series now after the farcical nature of the previous 2 or 3 versions. very tempted to pick this version up though. Although I've heard that the PC version is an awful port of the console versions.

    Currently on Chapter 5

So far a good game al;though the driving physics are a bit extreme, some of the challanges are really difficult due to vehicles skidding out of control.

The ability to jump from car to car is handy and makes it decent for wheels since there is no walking, that being said though I could not get my Thrustmaster Clutch wheel to work properly with it.

Native support for Xbox 360 controllers though which is nice

As for an awful port I would not say so it seems to run just fine although you do need a decent quad core PC if you want to turn everything up.
