Wow, that brings back memories or Dungeon Master, Bloodwyche and Bards Tale from the 16 bit era on the Amiga. Going to watch this one now

Re: Legend Of Grimrock - Old School goodness.

At last - its nearly here, April 11th Release confirmed!

Will be available direct at a pre-order discount of $11.99 from the developers..

    http://www.grimrock.net/buy/

    and also via Steam...

    http://store.steampowered.com/app/207170/

I had a play through Dungeon Master a couple of months ago in preparation for this. I have high hopes for this game. Love the way the play system is so true to the old Dungeon crawlers like DM/Eye of the beholder but they have added the presentation up to todays standards.

I have been following the development of this game on the developers blog, and as has been featured quite widely in the press the Finish developers "Almost Human" have listened to the fans requests in the creation of this game, such as listening to the requests of a disabled member of the fanbase....

Re: Legend Of Grimrock - Old School goodness.

Update: I just purchased this directly from developers for the pre-order price $11.99

For this you get both a steam activation code (which I have just registered, game sitting ready for pre-download) and you also get a standalone installer when the game launches on April 11th.

Also for the pre-order you get the following which I have now downloaded...

    - A beautifully crafted game manual
    - Legend of Grimrock world map
    - Custom made grid paper to print out for all your mapping needs
    - Grimrock theme music
    - Wallpapers
    - Art sheets illustrating foul creatures of Mount Grimrock
    - Team photo

More than happy to support these independent Developers based on what I have seen so far from this title

Wow, I think I'm going to have to buy this one
£7.50ish that looks like a good deal.

I've got far too many games to play now
I wonder if there's a random generation to it or not, that was a key part of the old games that really gave them re-playability.

The dungeons are not randomly generated for the initial release but it is something they will be looking at in later updates/releases including a map generator as well later. The main issue is that they are a very small 4 man dev team releasing their first ever game together, im sure if the initial release is successful will be a load of updates to enhance it in time.

I think $11 is a great price point for introducing this game, have to remember that allot of younger people have never experienced the old dungeon crawlers this is based on so will be a new game "type" to try to persuade them to try out.

A good article below on the top 11 things being looked forward to with this, with the caveat (that those that didn’t play Dungeon Master are going to find it confusing.)

Re: Legend Of Grimrock - Old School goodness.

Well ordered now paid via paypal total cost was £7.80p

A lot would depend on the engine to the possibility of random map generation, most 3d games still use maps where most of the lighting is pre calculated and contained within the map file making it impracticable to use random generation or even just random tile sets.

Re: Legend Of Grimrock - Old School goodness.

I watched the trailer for this months ago and was very hyped for it. I even felt nostalgic. I have no clue why, however, as I have never played an old school game like it. The vibe simply appeals to me for some reason. I have no idea what is awaiting me in terms of gameplay, despite the videos getting me psyched. This is why I am not going to preorder it, but instead wait for more information and the like to come out. If I am to get it, it will be a GOG purchase. Yup, this game is coming to GOG.

I'd hope anyone can make their own mind up whether any game is good or not but if you want your interest boosting and the old anticipation building still further, then the early signs look good!

That goes to a collection of review links and shows their awarded scores, by the way.

Indeed, the reviews coming in thick and fast and are looking very positive.

Only a few more days to go, has been a long time since I have been counting down the days to a new release with this much anticipation. Roll on Wednesday!
