    game reviews

I seem to remember a time when a game review would come out a week or two before the release of the actual game hitting the shops. Nhl 12, Space Marine and another fell well advertised title (whoose name escapes me) all come out on the 9th but no on-line reviews yet - am i wrong and reviews have always come out the same week the game is released?

    Permanently confused

    Re: game reviews

It seems to be the norm these days for any title to be embargoed until release/close to release, as publishers are unwilling to risk low metacritic scores affecting their pre-orders.

As a result, I rarely pre-order any more. It's simply not worth taking a gamble, regardless of any incentives offered.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

    Re: game reviews

Being the first to publish a review of a long-awaited game is a BIG scoop for a magazine or website. Lots of money changes hands for the privilege. Everyone else is NDA'd

    Re: game reviews

And also pre-release piracy is a major concern - review versions were a major leakage point so people tend to use 0-day activation systems for reviewers to reduce the risk.

LOL didn't you realise how bad that was beforehand? It was obvious (and there was a demo)

    I can dream

But to get the demo you also had to preorder which in itself is confusing, i always thought as demos as somthing to make you want to buy/preorder.
