    Your Defining Moments in Games

New thread to avoid hijacking the GRAPHICS thread

What were your defining moments in gaming?

    1. Through The Wall on the Speccy, came with the demo tape, first game I ever played on a computer

    2. Chase HQ again on the Speccy, one of those games that had C64 and Amiga/ST versions and the speccy version was better than any of them, not in looks but definitely in gameplay

    3. Final Fantasy 7, when the first Weapon comes crashing out of the sea. I know it wasn't actual gameplay, but it was a stunning moment that set the pace for the rest of the game.

    4. The first time I managed to dock in Elite

    5. Beating SF2 in the arcade on a single credit/completing Bubble Bobble in co-op mode on a single credit

    6. Taking down Cazic Thule in the Plane of Fear 2.0 with the guild that I later joined and spent 5 years with and every server first boss kill with them afterwards. Everquest.

    7. Starting and Completing Halo 3 in coop mode, awesome awesome game.

    8. That Assassins Creed first tower moment

There are loads more, but then I have been gaming for near on 30 years now (Oil Panic anyone?). I have no idea which game I first completed that had an end sequence (SF2 comes to mind but not sure) that led me to try and complete every game I play (loads of unfinished PS3 and Xbox ones atm because I keep getting dragged back to CoD).

So, add your own, lets see how many people have had the same gaming moments (lets leave the sex scene in Dreamweaver out of it k......) and see how many gaming memories we can drudge out of the past

Re: Your Defining Moments in Games

Have to second the Junon Harbour scene in FF7 , watching the weapon gets its face blow off is always fun, was my first proper RPG game I tried.

Diablo 2 has gotta be up their as well, was the first game I truly got hooked on your talking 200hours plus into it when I was like 16.

Getting the original Deus Ex working on a ATI rage pro and on a P3 that at the time was my aunts PC, could only play it on the weekends when I visited and used to look forward to it, took me weeks to complete.

Last but least playing link games on the PS1 with my m8 on CNC Red alert, the game used to suffer from such massive slowdowns it was unreal lol.

Seeing Drouble Dragon in the arcade and and becoming addicted to beat em ups.. and anything to do with martial arts / bruce lee and ninjas..

Seeing Mortal Kombat for the first time in the arcade in Florida and getting excited about what the others competitors did,

Seeing pics of the segas genesis ? console at the time I had my c64 and wishing I was in japan.

Playing Diablo for the 1st time , and playing it on multiplayer.

Seeing the Green Sabre in GTA:SA
    The Normandy SR-2 in ME2
Being killed and set alight in MW2

Actually, I think those are the only ones that were genuinely memorable.

Gotta be the Butcher tho, Diablo himself was nothing on The Butcher

and Double Dragon, awesome game, another one I used to feed my lunch money, trying to complete on a single credit, dont think I ever did tho.

And the end of Red Dead Redemption. Actually all of RDR for me, didn't want to play and never intended to but a mate lent me his copy and I was blown away. Wish RockStar would release it for PC.

Re: Your Defining Moments in Games

To many moment to choose from - but just off the top of my head, here are some of those ones that made me go "ooooooh, no way!!"...

Getting that level in super mario world where you have to fly under the normal finishing gate to get to another exit.
Getting all 96 levels in SMW
Circle strafing/Z-Targeting around stalfos outside the main castle as a kid Link for the very first time (well, in any game, dont think it had ever been done)
Picking up the sword in the temple of time and then seeing kid link turn into adult link
Finishing the Mofo-ing Water Temple in Zelda OOT
The twist at the end of Knights of the old republic (No, I didnt see it coming. Doh!)

Crikey there are so many I couldnt possibly list them, but thats a good list so far

Re: Your Defining Moments in Games

    1. Completing Alien 8 on the zx

    2. First playing Elite on the zx

    3. Completing Knight Lore on the zx

    4. Playing/completing Dungeon Master on the ST

    5. Hired Guns on the Amiga -not just the game, but that catchy music theme for its time was amazing (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W04pCezt7C0)

    6. Diablo on the PC personally preferred the first one, best moment was first visit to the crypts.

    7. Nocturne on the PC - first time playing with the lights off and seeing that shadow rendering -amazingly underrated game for its time. Loved it.

    8. Demons Souls on the PS3 - finally completing it, first game to really challenge since the early zx games, loved it. Bring on Dark Souls.

Re: Your Defining Moments in Games

Playing 'Desert Storm' on the PS << I never bothered with games before this! It was a revelation. I then played C&C and loved it more! Finally I discovered you could LAN it and became a bit of an unbeatable C&C expert. I had to move onto a new game when I came to realise no-one would play me anymore.
Unreal Tournament: I used to play in Lans before the internet came along. I loved those all nighters.
HL: DoD <<< playing as a clan. Eventually got into a good one too. In fact i'm still member of =BA=
FF7: I jumped off that train and was hooked! Soooooo many good moments. I know I will NEVER enjoy a game this much ever again. I've since completed it serveral time and collected every item in-game there is available. FF8 sucked badly in comparison.
WoW: All trips into Molten Core and BWL. It was really exciting making progress and I was in a top UK guild. It did destroy my life a bit tho, so now I don't play games at all ...

The butcher as opposed to the thousand pound whopper from D3 is one badass , he should of been the endgame really diablo himself was letdown compared to the build up - how do you top the Butcher ??

or his " ahh, fresh meat !!" which catches you off guard completely

other memorable moments... realted to gaming

getting my first poke to work
recording my first * cough * tape
    ZZAP 64 !!!

competing against my bro on never winters nights / ice wind dale and losing badly
getting my revenge and kicking his ass at medal of honor on PS
getting my revenge against my friend for losing at Supermario land by completing Castlevania first instead

My first and last trial of WOW where you get to fly the bat mount in the forest..

Playing Super Fire Pro Wrestling X Premium the sheer amount of moves, customization still puts any other wrestling game to shame - there was no radom button bashing here , you had to actually pull the moves off after you won the grapple - and there were many.

And of course the first Resident Evil , the only reason I bought i PlayStation , before returning it again after completion haha
