    Re: Syndicate

Yeah, Starbreeze studios are doing this one (Chronicles of Riddick / Enclave)

They have completely moved direction with this classic. From 3rd person top down strategy type gaming on the Commodore Amiga to another first person title (same goes for X Com thinking about it which is also coming out next year I believe)

From the vids out there for it at the minute I think it is looking a bit like Deus Ex in all honesty which is no bad thing as Human Revolution is an awesome game. Loads of people are complaining about it being yet another first person and changing the game type, thing is though if it is done right it should be a decent game regardless. Yeah I would like to see another isometric Syndicate game, but it is now 2011, times change.

That is great news, just hearing that music again makes me nostalgic. Shame eveything has to be fps these days, i really liked the squad/god/commander mode of it and Xcom.

    Re: Syndicate

Enjoyed watching the gameplay footage last night. Nice bit of dark humour with the mind controlling abilities. Doesn't look too shabby at all either, quite a promising start.

Still wish they'd pop out a HD remake of the original Syndicate though.
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

Hmmmm, it's not Syndicate though, is it!

I played the original on my A500 or A1200 (I can't remember which, I had both) loads, and although this does look interesting, to call it Syndicate is a lie IMO.

    Re: Syndicate

No it's not the old Syndicate. The way I see it, is that if the original devs had today's hardware specs back then, would they still have produced what they did? As long as the essence of the original continues, I don't really mind the changes. As a game in its own right, it has my interest
My only concern is should I hide my true identity? A costume maybe?

    Re: Syndicate

being a person who does some retro gaming every once in a while, I find that many games arn't quite a good as I remembered them. For example privateer which in my mind as graphics as good as any modern space game, turn out to have an interface a really poor interface. Fallout came out ok, no reason to think this will not.

This, though I would settle for someone making a easy way for Syndicate wars to run in high res mode with working sound and normal game speed on a modern PC.

    Re: Syndicate

Syndicate wars (the 2nd one) wasn't isometric, it was an early 3d rts, but the game just wasn't as good as the original.

Keeping the flavour of being an agent amoral corporation fighting amoral corporations, although it would be nice if they took it the one step more and made it so the agents are actually remotely controlled as it was in the original. (you where an executive was controlling the agents not the actual agents, which is what syndicate wars was)

XCOM already tried going down the FPS route with XCOM Enforcer *shudders*

I feel dirty even mentioning the name.

As for treating it as a game in it's own right - I wouldn't have a problem with that IF they didn't slap the Syndicate name on it. They are using the old name to attract old fans, and then sell them something that is very different. By all means go ahead and make a new IP and I will treat that as a game in it's own right, but use an old name and they are setting expectations that it is something to do with the old games.

Sorry but I'm firmly in the group that would much rather see another "Syndicate" game rather than FPS spin off, regardless of how it turns out. Frozen Synapse is probably closer to a Syndicate game than this new one is looking to be.

    Re: Syndicate

im more interested in Cartel than syndiacate. Cartel sounds more like the syndiacte gamers wanted

Syndicate looks like it could end up being another deus ex - not a bad thing but DE has already been there and done that

    Permanently confused

    Re: Syndicate

Agents shouldn't be 'human' in the normal sense, they shoud be more like Terminators, ruthlessly carrying out commands given to them by execs, regardless of cause or morality. Being an agent yourself is just so wrong.

By all means if you must have an FPS element have head cams and the ability to jump into an agent and take control, but the lack of 3D isometric style RTS and a team based dynamic is a serious downer for me. I also didnt notice the classic Syndicate audio 'pulse'.

Still, I'll keep watching and hoping I'll like it...
