Another steam update this morning, yay. Most people that play cs hate steam, I am no exception.
Steam is however, a good idea, but with a pathetic implementation.
whats suppost to happen is this:
Game has a bug -> small patch released over steam -> bug fixed, everyone happy.
Which is to replace this:
Game is full of bugs -> Massive patch released onto thousands of mirrors -> Takes ages for everyone to update -> users are pissed off when they find the patch made the game worse, and less fun (aswell as fixing bugs).
In reality I find this is what happens with steam:
Playing game -> bug fix released -> Everyone forced to update through crappy slow steam servers -> game unavailable for about 3 days.
If thats not bad enough, the developers have decided to do almost daily updates, meaning a lot of gaming gets missed - not so bad if you just play now and then but if your in a clan, its not helpfull...
So there servers are crap - costs too much money for so much bandwidth (cs community is very large).
Yet they have so many people playing cs.
It amazes me why they dont just release patches as cache files (steam stores game content in cache files) so people dont have to reply on there crappy servers for a small patch.
If that isnt bad enough, ive been waiting all day for the patch, and it doesnt even try to update it untill you try to start the game - and it stops trying after the messge game is not available about 10 seconds after. Meaning lots of clicking all day to get one stupid small patch...
Bit torrent would be perfect for cs patches.
and they cant even update the changelog, its still from the 14th!!! ffs
