Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

Hi there! I currently have the latest slim PS3 and wanted to buy games for the PS move.

But I've heard that there are many advantages of the Kinect making it better than the Move:

    1. generally more & better KINECT games than Move

    2. generally cheaper KINECT games than Move

    3. more "freedom" and more interaction (read: immersive) KINECT games than Move

    4. you have to shelve more money on the Move than Kinect

e.g. for certain Kinect game you can play as 4 players without having to buy any controllers. for a Move game you have to buy 2 controllers so that's almost twice extra money out of your pockets.

    5. Lag is almost nil with Move but software improvements make Kinect better than it was before.

    Please tell me i'm wrong.....

I'll be mainly using the Move/Kinect for games like Wii Sports (tennis, boxing, table tennis, volleyball, etc.) or action-adventure games such as Harry Potter, Star Wars or some first-person shooters or some fitness workout/exercise games.

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

you need alot of space for kinect for vertical and horizontally. i thought i had room but just couldnt get it to get me in the "best" area" for the view.

move however requires no space, few good games like dead space but for me i did get bored of both after a week so sold the kinect.

there is alot of investment into the kinect in terms of games and UI, and games are coming out regularly, though inital purchase price is more.

Do you have 8 feet of space in front of your TV to comfortably play motion games standing up? That's the minimum space for Kinect, unless you use mods like the Nyko Kinect Zoom lens

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

What i am trying to look at is the economics & financial side of things. I will be sacrificing a very good Blu-ray player, full 1080p output, internet surfing, PS Home, exclusive games, catch-up TV services amongst others with my PS3.

My issue remains the same: will i save money in the long run buying games/hardware for the Move? Is the lag issue being addressed by Microsoft on the Kinect? are there more exciting games on the Kinect than Move?

I will be mainly be using a Kinect/Move for fitness/exercise games and also the odd FPS or action/adventure/sci-fi/fantasy games such as what they've done with Harry Potter, Killzone or that upcoming Star Wars game. so presuming i only need a "starter pack" that is around £40. but with 2-player action game (like say Table tennis or some action-platformer) that mean i have to shelve out an extra £40 making it £80 in total am i correct?

And someone stated that some games needed that additonal nav controller. how would i know if a game i want to buy needed a nav controller? that's an additional £20 (or less) and together with my wife that's £40 in total. £80 + £40 equals £120 overall.

for one game would you say that's still "cheap" and value for money?

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

You only need to buy 1 starter pack - after that you just need to buy the controllers on their own - currently about £27 each. The starter pack includes a camera and demo software, so you only need one of those...

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

So, let's say the Starter Pack is just under £40 PLUS additional Move motion controller for just under £30 PLUS a game that i like to play with the missus like Sports Champion for £20 that brings us a total of £90.
(although with Sports Champions the female model in the front cover is using TWO motion controllers which i'm not sure if i need it)

For a Kinect system it costs just under £80 plus a game equivalent to Sport Champions (? what game and how much?) would be around £20-£25 estimate. which brings a total of £100-£110.

If my comparison is correct then that means the PS move wins in terms of money spent/saved, accuracy, graphics. enjoyability? dunno. i haven't got one yet.

so, does anyone agree to my assessment?

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

Do you already have the xbox 360? If not, that should skew the costs.

I have the move controller, but have never used it so I can't comment. From what i've heard, the principle is a mix between kinect and wii, in that you're waving around a controller, but it's being tracked by a camera, which I suppose you can also use for webcamming/perversion...

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

Kinect, Move, Wii... My household has them all and they barely get used! The novelty factor wore off after a while and i personally find it better to game from the comfort of my sofa with a 'normal' controller

Kinect can lag a bit and you need lots of room (especially for more than 2 players!). Move is definitely more accurate and responsive... The Wii is pants in comparison.

On the issue of minimal lag, value for money (like the one i mentioned above), UI & software and variety of games...which one wins here:

    Kinect or Move?

Do you already have the xbox?

If so, it's much of a muchness on price, Move seems more accurate, perhaps more than Wii with motionplus, or whatever it's called. I guess you need to look at the Kinect games and Move games available, decide which ones you want to play, and what's coming up, then decide. Space available for gaming needs to be thought about. Also, be aware that more functionality is being brought to Kinect, and more media capabilities to Xbox in general...

Anyway, don't know if this helps, but Asda have the Move nav controllers for £15 each. Apparently you only really need them in FPS type games, so you might only need one or two...

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

Move seemed like a good idea, just doesn't work well in practice and less space is required to play than Kinect, but to be honest no controller is always gonna be better than holding two glowing ice cream cones and waving them about frantically hoping the PS3 will actually recognize what the hell it is that you are doing.

I have owned both and have to say that each has it's pros and cons, but in the end Kinect truly is awesome and Move, well it just isn't is it?

Why? You can have both consoles connected to the telly can't you? Why do you have to give anything up?

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

I'm thinking he'd sell the PS3 to get the 360.

I've got a Move kit (you only really need the nav controller for some games, and for a few of those you can get away with using a dual shock 3 one handed. Some games will let you play single player with 2 Move controllers (such as the sports one you mentioned and Medieval Moves) but again you can get away with 1 for the time being until you decide you want to upgrade to a 2nd.

That being said, I know the Gamestation near me did have some 2nd hand Move wands for £20 a month or two before Christmas, so it may be worthwhile having a check around you. I think the PSEye camera is fairly cheap too (I think I saw it for £17 with Eye Pet in Tesco a while back).

Re: Playstation Move worse than XBox Kinect?

I'm now inclined to stay with my PS3 more than ever. Move in terms of accurateness, overall savings on hardware & games and not needing a lot of space is starting to grow on me.

I will only be playing FPS, 3rd-person shooters, action games (similar to Harry Potter or that cool Star Wars Kinect game) and some fitness/exercise for me and the missus.
