Far Cry is the best game I played for a while, better than Red faction 2, Mafia, Grand theft Auto - Vice city & Dredd vs Death which i've played recently.

Auran likes it on X box....can ya tell

Medal of Honur is very very good.....but I have other ideas for ya.

Is it your first FPS? If so....

Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a better bet than Medal of Honour, Allied Assault.

Also SERIOUSLY consider Q3.....it is still the fastest thing ever...and will now run on most PC's.

or for a persoanl favourite of mine.....

    The Thing

    now THATS scary as well.....

far cry seems the most balanced - it's single player which is nice. ut2004 would be 2nd choice - I think graphically it's awesome, and some of the mods coming out are better than the original.

Out of the options you've got up there, I'd certainly not hesitate to recommend Far Cry...There are some FPS fanatics who put it down 'cause it's not perfect, but for someone who's new to PC games, it'll blow any console experiences you might have out of the water...

...IF your computer is up to the task. It might be worth posting your machines specifications just to see if you're going to be able to run it enough to appreciate it...

...The same can be said for Halo, you do need a decent machine to run it. However, it has none of the advantages of Far Cry. Speaking from experience here, it's an awfull game. Terrible. Boring. Repetitious. Cliched. And very tired looking.
Graphically it's sub par, even running on my machine the bad guys look like pixellated blobs when they're more than 20ft away. The storyline is okay, but nothing special. Yeah, I have to agree with Auran, the banter spouted by the troops and the aliens is amusing, but that doesn't make a good game. There's whole sections where it's tunnel, cavern, tunnel, cavern, tunnel, cavern, tunnel, cavern...all using the same template...sooooo boring.

Back to Far Cry. Yes, it's hard, but not THAT hard, which makes it all the more rewarding when you get through those really challanging sections. There's nothing worse than forking out for a game only to be be totally unchallanged by it.

UT2004 is cracking, for a deathmatch game. There's no storyline, so if you like a plot, don't get it.

I'd take the time to have a look at Medal of Honour, although IMO Call of Duty is a cracking alternative. Oh yeah, and you can't got wrong with Grand Theft Auto - Vice City (one of the best games of all time).

    Hope that was some help.

Multiplayer : Ut2004 - because i dont want a storyline, i want to just jump online and frag. Ive not found a game which comes close to 04's multiplayer.
It has LOADS of mods for it already. You buy 04, and its more than just one game.
Dont waste your time on the single player thing. You'll want unreal 1 for that (now, thats a game). Unreal 2 is graphical wonderfull, but a pittyfull and short "save the universe by killing everyone" storyline.

Farcry single player is good though

Voted UT for the longevity of the game and all the aditional free mods (RO is ace).

Forgot to mention - the real joy of Halo is playing co-op on linked X-box's, something which is sadly lacking on the PC version.

I'll admit there are lots of caverns and similar looking instalations, but thats due to it having large maps, something the X-box doesn't like unless you use generic structures. Plus I think that it actually looks better on the X-box, the port is that bad!!

The challenge with it is playing on legendary as the AI is scarily good, plus you are seriously outgunned, which is the way it should be. You have to seriously think about how to approach every situation, rather than going in Rambo style.

[QUOTE=Auran]The beauty of Halo is in its subtlties, which unfortunately are overshadowed by the awful port version on the PC.
    QUOTE]

Sorry dude, but Halo is really overshadowed by plenty of better FPS on the PC format, on the x-box it doesn't really have any competition, plus it was WRITTEN with the X-box in mind, which is why its better on there.

Has anyone tried Thief : Deadly Shadows yet?

I know I know it's not really an FPS at all but its excellent! First game so far that I can say has used shadows properly where they have a purpose and are helpful to you in the game.

Good gameplay, interesting enough story to drag it along and the level in the...

...Orphanage turned Insane Asylum which was then burnt down and is now haunted...

... talk about a) a cool setting and b) a scary level with ambiant noises that would scare the K - Rap outta you!

If you want something that little bit different, try it

OK, I'm afraid Halo is back on the list. This is because far cry is very very hard, and I can't complete a game unless it's fairly easy. Also, I really don't like world war games.

I'll find online reviews first, and I make a proper, thoughtful decision.

Does that mean that far cry isn't multiplayer - I'm sure it is?

I think I've changed my mind again - I'm sure I'll get over the difficulty of far cry if I give it time.

I've just found out it is multiplayer, so don't bother replying and saying so!
