Scroll Wheel in games (MX700)?

Back in the day, when I used a trusty MS mouse, being able to change my weapon of choice in whichever FPS I chose to play (long live Unreal Tournament) using the scroll wheel was a handy feature.

However, I can't seem to get it to work with Logitech Mouseware, and seeing as a large number of Hexus forum members rate the MX700 as their tool of choice, I was wondering if anyone had found a fix.

This was touched upon briefly in another post not so long ago, but I think the best suggestion was to uninstall MouseWare and use MS default mouse drivers (something which disables all the extra buttons the MX700 offers). It does indeed make the scroll wheel work, but it's not a satisfactory solution.

Surely Logitech are aware that the scroll wheel doesn't work and have a work around? Anybody? Please?

I use the MX700 and the only way I have found of getting the scroll wheel to work in games was to take the logitech drivers off.

Don't you find that defeats the purpose of having a load of other buttons on the mouse? And I presume that you agree with me in that Logitech has got to be aware of the issue?

Well I'm not all that fussed to be honest m8, I have found with the software installed, if you asign the side buttons for other things when in use on the desktop that also messes up some games. So I'm happy with using it under the MS drivers, I play games 90% of time.

You are right though, they should sort it out, it's been like this for years and years now.

I think you can use the MS drivers and assign stuff to it if you like the programmability of it

Which driver sets are you guys using? I'm pretty sure they fixed this quite some time ago by copying the way MS implemented the scroll wheel - I've been using the my mx700 wheel for changing weapons since I got it.... (including UT2004)

I use my MX700 scroll wheel in all my games without a hitch, you tried the latest drivers.

Currently using Mouse Driver version 9.78

Downloading 9.79 now, but got a feeling that's not going to do it.

Spazman, since you've got it working, any ideas what I might be doing wrong? It doesn't even register the scroll wheel as an input source when assigning keys through the menu...

I'm using drivers that windows update got for me (im lazy) and all the buttons and scroll wheels work, although i cant change what the buttons do in windows its not really a problem as all i use bar left and right click is the back button on it. I do remember having problems similar to your when i first got it. Uninstall the logitech drivers and use defalt windows ones, see how that goes.

I like all my extra buttons dagnamit. I've got the two buttons above the thumb as copy and paste, the button behind the scroll wheel as cut, and the one behind that as Explore My Computer. After while you just get so used to having the extra functionality that you can't do without it.

Rythmic ... since you are now the only person to have spoken for whom the MX700 scroll wheel works, I appeal to you in the hopes of finding a solution...Any thoughts?

Has anyone else out there who uses MouseWare encountered this problem?

Trying to remember what I did last time I installed that was anything special, but can#t think of anything in particular. Mouse wheel started working for me at about driver revision 9.76 IIRC. Gathered a few things you can try though

Try enabling the "MS Office compatible scrolling" and "Scroll active window only options" - this seems to fix some

Ah just remembered theres a tweak program for the drivers too, think I used that - let me just google - here we are:

Give that a shot!

If all that fails - try setting all the scroll size options in mouseware to none, then use tweakui to set the scroll size to 3

Lastly - kill EM_EXEC.EXE in taskmanager before playing games - not really much of a solution though.
