    farcry on ps2 in 2006?!

ffs my friend is a such a nob!
he has told me hl2 is coming out on ps2...which it isnt
now he says farcry is coming out on it...in 2006! yeh right!
i cant even begin to say how much codswallep this is
    but ill try
    1. by 2006 the graphics and games market will have moved on from farcry graphics and gameplay...so no one will buy it
    2. ps2 cant handle pc games
    3. ps2 sucks

btw i just want to check he isnt telling the truth about this
because putting it on ps2 will ruin it
    any one know anything?

Far Cry: Instincts E3 2004 Preview

    Platform: PS2, Xbox

    Publisher: Ubi Soft

    Developer: Ubi Soft Montreal

With the success Ubisoft has found lately in porting its Clancy games from the PC to consoles, it's no shock that they'd give their latest chart-topper, Far Cry, the console treatment. Far Cry: Instincts looks to deliver the same free-roaming style of gameplay we saw on the PC, but with a tweaked plot, some new vehicles and weapons, and other console-specific features.

Instincts takes place on what looks to be largely the same island used for the PC version, but now you'll have vehicles like ATVs and Jet Skis for exploring it. A few new moves, like the ability to crawl underneath an overhang, flip onto your back, and shoot directly upward, will mean some subtle additions to how you play the game. Plus, 16 players for the game's many online modes via Xbox Live should be a blast.

Potentially, the biggest feature is the included map editor. Unlike the other simplistic editors we've seen on consoles before, this one gives you full abilities to raise and lower terrain, as well as drop in vegetation, buildings, vehicles, or other objects as you see fit. While you're editing, you can pull the left trigger and instantly jump into your map, do a little exploration from a first-person view, ride some vehicles around, and then jump back to edit mode for more tweaks. And, best of all, you'll be able to upload and download maps via Xbox Live, meaning all the user-created content can be easily shared.

The folks at Ubisoft Montreal are currently working hard to get this one out on store shelves by the end of the year.
    1. oops! it is coming out and half-life came out using the Quake II engine, some years after Quake II came out.
    2. It's a console version, and the graphics have been reduced but it's gameplay that counts.
    3. You'd best go say your sorry to your mate , and I think the PS2 is great .

    Good thing you checked really

actually, half life is mostly quake 1 engine

(actual screen from the first version of hl)

far cry will need to be SEVERELY castrated to run on ps2, getting it to look anything like its xbox counterpart will require a team of a hundred programmers who speak in pure assembly code

It started life as a Quake I licence but buy the time time they had released it they needed a Quake II licence from id due to the modifications to the code they made. So technicaly we're both right

The screen shots released for the PS2 so far dont look that bad :

    http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/action/f...reenindex.html

But then again... it will have lost the partical effects to a large degree and the texture resolution will have to be dropped as well as the amount of polygons, but you have to remember that they only need to get it running @ TV resolutions.

Anyway if you want a laugh goto Ubisoft website and look at the difference between their X-Box, PC and PS2 Screenshot....
    PS2 for Splinter Cell : http://www.ubi.com/UK/Games/Screensh...=1203&sId=6528
    X-Box for Splinter Cell : http://www.ubi.com/UK/Games/Screensh...d=614&sId=4107
    PC for Splinter Cell: http://www.ubi.com/UK/Games/Screensh...d=552&sId=3453
And play spot the difference... Either they use the same final version for all three platforms (which does seem the most likley because of money) or they are just down right lazy with their screenshots.

about 40%-50% quake 1 source, 15-20% quake 2 source, 30-45% original code, are the best estimates
