Exclamation POLL - which PC game?

I've done a previous thread asking people what game they think I should buy, because I'm completely new to PC games. (Which game thread)

I now have a list of a few games that seem good from the demos I've downloaded. I need your help to help me decide which to buy.

I think that halo 2 will be release in september (I think), so I need to know if I have to play halo 1 first, or it doesn't matter.

    Thanks

halo is an awful port of a mediocre first person shooter designed for play on a games console.

I think unreal's OK, but the weapons are VERY futuristic. There must be some sort of a plot to it - what is it. Aliens, civil war, what?

I only played the demo of Halo (I like FPS games; not that I'm very good at them, but I do enjoy them), and it was AWFUL...laggy, floaty mouse, stale graphics, it just sucked; the only greater disappointment I've had recently was the demo of Deus Ex:Invisible War.

UT2004 is fun, haven't mucked about with Far Cry.

From what i've seen and played of far cry it seems very good, imo though the fps genre has gone slightly stale as of late

Right now, I think far cry is the top of my list, but I found the demo quite hard, even on the easiest difficulty. I think it's that i'm just not used to using a mouse and keboard. Controllers are easier I think for games, but I'm sure I'll change with time..... and practice!

ya.. halo was terrible. It would have been better if we could play the x-box idiots online. Beating them with out useful mouse turning circle. INSTEAD of the crappy limited controls.

Grrrr. Thats my grumble. UT2004 is fantastic fun. Far cry is a great engine, but i found the AI more dumb than my shoes. And I don't even know what this "other - please state" is.....

ut2004 is just a deathmatch game. no story to speak of. unreal 2 is a (mediocre) shooter set in the same mythos, with a story.

So, unreal's only really good for multiplayer?

(I'd like a game that both single and multi)

Once you get used to the keyboard/mouse combo, you will look back and wonder how you ever played a FPS game with a controller in the first place. I never buy FPS games for my PS2 simply for this reason.

As for which game is better....Halo is absolutely awful, hated it after a 10 minute session on it, and I still wonder why people rave on about it so much. As for UT2004 and FarCry, they're both different slices of pies. UT2004 isn't really meant for playing single-player, its more of a tuition to get you ready for multi-player. FarCry is probably the best single-player FPS out atm.

Unreal2 was really jus an inetractive tech demo, ie, impressive game engine but a storyline thinner than thin spot on a thin thing.

Halo is just pants, so please, please, please don't even consider it.

UT2k4 is a deathmatch game in essence but the single player campaign is still fun.

Far Cry IS hard, especially if this will be your first outing into FPS games, also, you'll need an uber ninja rig to run it at a decent framerate.

I reckon that Call of Duty or Medal of Honour (which is now on budget) would be good ones to cut your teeth on, the 'easy' skill level is easy. Far Cry feels a lot harder as you have no quick save option, whereas most other games let you save wherever you are, making them easier to complete.

aahhhh. Deckard. Don't mention MOHAA to me.. the original is now cheap. Has an ACE storyline, and the multiplayer is still worth a go. If you can get the cheating SWINES removed from the server. There are cheats...

Call of Duty is made by the makers of MOHAA, the ORIGINAL development team... not the ones that make the crappy "medal of" * games. and is THE best single player fps I have played in ages... I can agree that both are worth a go. + c0d does not need the ninja rig that far cry d0es....

take it easy lads - and ladettes.

The beauty of Halo is in its subtlties, which unfortunately are overshadowed by the awful port version on the PC.

    It's the inane banter between the marines that get me, like;

"NEXT ONE WHO DIES GETS IT IN THE REAR FROM *ME!*"
"See, they're not so tough. My God there some o' them were wearin' skirts!"

Then there is the idiot antics of the Covenant grunts - attach a plasma grenade to one and watch him run around screaming to his comrades, who desperately try to keep their distance, as he chases after them
If it ain't broke, fetch a bigger hammer

Far Cry, especially on Vet level was both challenging & involving. UT2004 is a monster blast online, I just never get the time to give it justice tho
I liked SoF II, but found it very hard. Great game tho.
