I would buy a new system for Shenmue 3

As I find myself heading more and more towards the indie side of gaming as I am bored with the same old rehashes from the big studio's its games like this that make me look at systems for different gaming.
I recently bought a 3DS just so I could play Star Fox again xD
I also bought a Wii (which the bairn has now claimed as his own as I play it so often) just for Super Mario Galaxy 2
Other than that, system wise I might be tempted by a Vita for a few games.
Hard to say really as 90% of the indie gaming these days is done on the PC.

not so much the combat but the gimmick.
How many flying sims have top down plan view , or are based round animals ( not steeds )?
This combined with style / control is what I find appealing - not the combat - but the gimmick and how it changed your perception of what your usually used to , " Mount and Blade " was another great gimmick game.
Any original game is original because it has something that sets it apart , and thats what i dont see much these days and what puts me off a lot of games .
Minecraft proves gimmicks are more important than graphics , and that games are meant to be games - not simulators of , " our " reality - and that where i think todays games have failed , the whole idea of gimmick has been replaced by the idea , " REALER " is better so instead everything in the development is focused round that i.e. to show-off graphics really
Good graphics doesnt mean more realistic either imo
Gaming in general is a lot easier these days too , you used to get maybe 3 -5 lives and that was it - not multiple saves points, so the rewards were greater because they were so hard to get - which ( if the game was good ) was what made it addictive and replayable.
I blame Capitalism - our culture is so focussed on selling things ( including ourselves ) that eventually we become hooked on this idea of having to look and have pretty things because they attract your attention the quickest . Its like when you buy an album for that hit song that throws everything at you , only find its usually some other that grows on you that is usually the best.
I think that film , " Suckerpunch" is pretty good parody of what we've become, we want to experience and encounter amazing things but we want to experience them all in 5 mins rather than enjoying or trying to find out the process of how or why they happen, we want the Sound bytes & Headlines, not whats being implied or said between the lines instead.

I'd upgrade to play anything by EgoSoft. Indeed, being able to play X3 Terran Conflict was the tipping point in my decision to buy a new machine some 5 years ago. I do have legitimate work use for a reasonably powerful PC but my old rig still copes, despite taking its time compared to the fastest now. Gaming is the only justification I have to upgrade and I play the X-Series more than anything else.
My Internet connection needs attention first though. Steam is a no-no without a good link. My work machines aren't allowed near such services which is going to complicate matters. I still haven't played the games I bought at Christmas. Then I have to consider the hardware that might not work.
It's getting harder to convince myself to hand over my money. It was easy just a few years ago and I always seemed to get something better by far every 3 years. I'm hoping for a 'must-have', something so much faster, bigger or innovative that to buy is a no-brainer.
Perhaps I'm just getting old.
... I use now a big vent for the whole machine now, but I cant use it forever, it is my grandma's ventilator...
I'm looking at upgrading a few parts so I can make the Guild Wars 2 universe beautiful ;p
Can't say I see the attraction of that game personally but I bought a brand new widescreen T.V back in the day for the release of Metal Gear Solid 2, after I bought a PS2 pretty much soley for Gran Turismo 3..
Actually, that's something of a pattern for me with Sony hardware as I picked up a PS3 pretty much exclusively for GT5 and MGS4 and they're the only games I've kept around for it. Even the Uncharted games and other big exclusives have been traded back in at GAME over the years, Heavy Rain and the Shadow of the Colossus/ICO bundle are the only other two others that still remain.
Those might seem like small, almost silly reasons to shell out £300 on a console but Sony have a great knack for releasing tech that fills a percieved gap in my home entertainment system just as it begins to develop... As the owner of a smartphone I could never justify something like an iPod Touch for one game, but £300 on a dvd player that also lets me be Solid Snake from time to time or £400 on a Bluray player that does the same has never been a huge leap for me as a gamer though, so I do see where you're coming from.

I bought a DS solely to allow my Mom to play Brain Training.I suppose an iPOD does at least have other functionality. It turns out that Mom loves the machine and it's the only piece of computer technology she uses, and she now has several games. I find neither her DS nor her games appealing in the least, but each to their own.

There isn't a game, and never will be, that I'd by a new system for. I might take a trend in gaming spec into account when specifying a new PC, but I would never buy one just for a given game. I have upgraded a PC for a specific software requirement, but it's a business requirement, not a gaming one.
Nor would I buy even a gaming console for a specific game, though any game I wanted badly enough would feed into a decision of which console I bought. But it would have to be a lot more than one game to get me to buy a given console, or indeed, to buy a console or games platform at all.
Not a console owner (ok I've currently got a ps2 I inherited from an ex-flatmate, but that's just used as a dvd player)
I've upgraded my pc a couple of times for games, Halo on the pc was one, city of heroes MMO was another.
On that game, meh, now if they brought out some older games to it.
edit: You want a flying game how about magic carpet
I just don't understand why this isn't already happening, some formats would work so well on a touch interface like this.
Point and click adventures
Turn based rpg's
God games (populous would rock on an ipad)
sim games (before the term sim got overshadowed by the sim's)
Heck the Myth series of games would be great on this format (I never much liked the myth games, but they would work well on this sort of interface & portable format)

I have to say that I have done this a few times. Traditionally, and predominantly a PC gamer for many years, but a couple of years back, bought an xbox so that I could play Super Street Fighter (was the first release I believe) Halo 3, and Gears of War 2 (Loved the first on the PC so much!!!) as they were all exclusives at the time.
Then a few months back, bought a second hand PS3. Main reason was so that I could play FIFA12 with all my mates, as they werent on 360, but also I really wanted to play though the entire God of War series (HD remakes and the third also), heavy rain (because the story sounds superb) and shadow of the colossus.
It might sound like a bit of a waste of money, but I after the best that gaming can offer, and I wont pass up the opportunity if it becomes affordable. And one last thing. I will be getting a Wii U if a zelda game gets announced. My favourite franchise of all time. Would buy any platform to play another Zelda game.
What can I say, I just want to experience the best each platform has to offer.

Although i didn't, i think i would have been compelled to buy a 'gaming' PC for BF3.
