dead or alive? soul calibur?
Soul calibur 2 is very good, nice story mode to play through and a brilliant 2 player mode :)
*mourns the loss of his ps2 :(*
Soul Caliber 2 is the best of the ones I've tried, but none match up to Tekken  to be honest.
Roll on Tekken 5
Dead or alive 3 kicks tekkens ass if you can get into it, control is more difficult but still a better game that was just not hyped as much, my 2p worth.
My 2p is that controler inputs are the whole reason Tekken is so much better. The actual moves flow from the inputs that you put in. (Apart from some of the throws and hold moves).
In addition the mix of fighting styles is better - but I suppose each to their own :)
the following is a great beat 'em up for the X-box :)

If you've modded your xbox you could always wang the psx originals onto the hd.

it's always been my feeling that tekken has the LEAST sensation of brain -> game flow of the 3d beat-'em-ups i've played. the original soul calibur on dreamcast did best at this, i felt. simply the movement of the characters in tekken feels disjointed and erring, as if it's split into distinct separate moves rather than flowing battlesQuote:

Still it will be interesting to see how the game develops for Tekken 5, the change in the sidestep plus the addition of wall moves, certainly improved T4.
Dead or Alive was good, I had the PS2 versions of 1 and 2, but I would have to say that Tekken was better, it's just easier to pick up and play than DoA and I allways felt more in control with Tekken and its more fun for people to have a blast with and if you decide to get good at it and learn the moves it becomes even more rewarding. DoA seemed to have too much in the way of gimicks which if you took away there wouldnt be much of a fighting game underneath.
Anyway I always thought that the reason DoA 3 became an X-Box exculsive was because it couldnt compete with Tekken Tag on the PS2 ;).
It is worth noting as well that there might be a chance that Tekken could come out on the X-Box this time around, its Namco and they did the same with Soul Caliber II.
Also got tiny bit of a scoop on Tekken 5 from Edge mag this month, they have an interveiw with two of the developers. Just like Directhex says about it being a little disjointed they said that that was what was wrong with Tekken 4, they had lost a bit of the flow but they have addressed that and problems with the unlevel floor (which is gone) and the scenery has had a bit of a rework it doesnt get in the way and explodes a lot easier to make the experience more fun.
It sounds like they listened to the fans a lot this time, because of the choice of characters was also a bit limited for Tekken 4 which has been changed for 5. They have also added accessories like pirate hats and other random that offer nothing to the gameplay but a bit of fun. They're keeping the controls simple - 4 buttons and they havent kept the moves too realistic like they did with Tekken 4 after all it is a arcade beat em up so the characters and a little more styled than before.
It seems like they have realised it should be fun more than anything else and that comes accross in the interveiw. It is looking very good. :)
The only thing that concerns me is that Heihachi is dead? Supposedly - could we see another clone appearing...... :p
Anyway, I've not forgiven them yet for getting rid of Gon. I used to go through at least 4 characters on team battle using him. :devilish: And against True Ogre he ruled
