    Baldurs Gate returning??

    Been a few stories on the net about Beamdog and Baldurs Gate, these are the devs that done the HD versions of MDK 1 & 2. As a Dev they dont appear big enough to do a full new title and Baldurs Gate 2 finished perfect so not sure how things would pan out if they are actually doing a BG3. I guess if they are doing a new title Baldurs Gate the city could be a central focal point to a whole new story, similar in the way Neverwinter Nights was done with the city of Neverwinter being the focal point.

    Either way, Eurogamer done a story on this a few weeks back :

    http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/20...w-baldurs-gate

    At the time that story was upped the site just had a quote at the bottom and plain black background. Now though it has changed to the avatar pictures in the background and there is a timer which finishes at 7pm tonight GMT :

    http://www.baldursgate.com/

    Will be interesting to see what happens, waiting and hoping it is going to be big news, a HD remake would definately be welcome.

    My money is on a remake, which makes me incredibly happy! Thanks for updating on that countdown timer, had no idea that was there - haven't checked the site in a while.

    If a new BG rpg comes out with a similar feel to NWN, I'll be spending money and losing sleep when it comes out

    Thought: MMO Baldur's Gate?

    If I get an android version as well that's fine...

    EDIT:

    Hmmm, according to wikipedia's article on the Infinity engine,
    A free compatible game engine recreation is in development under the name of GemRB. It runs on multiple platforms, including FreeBSD, Linux, Mac OS X, Windows, Android and AmigaOS 4.[1]

    Re: Baldurs Gate returning??

    Hmm, mind you, beamdog did the MDK2 (also Bioware) HD remake. This is beamdog as well, so could be a PC HD remake.

    Code:
    <!-- March 14, 2012 -->
    <!-- Shadowy Figure- Raise Dead : Infinity Engine -->

    <!-- It is coming. -->
    edit: timeout
    edit2: beamdog also down

    Awesome, HD makeover from Beamdog, they did a decent job on MDK 1 & 2 so hopefully this will be something special

    Was Baldur's Gate a proper D&D cRPG, or was it like Dragonshard - they licensed the setting but used their own system? Never got round to playing it

    On the other hand, another reason not to buy D3

    Well I don't think there's ever been a 'proper' D&D cRPG - the closest was probably ToEE. All the rest made compromises in making a computer game. BG uses 2nd ed rules, has a lot of the computer friendly spells and proficiencies etc. There's a good flavour of the rules, but it's simultaneous round based rather than turn based, and by default is real time until pause conditions are met.

    My BG box is just on the shelf above me Sadly, the UK version only has a black and white manual

    Ah, that's what I was interested in. Wonder if the update will stick with that or will use a newer version. Lordy, it'd take me a while to get back into the swing of 2nd. 4th should work pretty well as a cRPG, but I'd be more than happy with 3 / 3.5 (Neverwinter Nights geek, me? What on earth gave you that idea ).
